New Wooden Boats 10.70m LimoTender With an Advanced Technological Movable Deckhouse
Wooden Boats has created the new WB 10.70 m LimoTender with a movable deckhouse, which is necessary for it to be comfortably stowed in the garage of the superyacht that houses it. The American owner who commissioned the WB 10.70 m LimoTender had no doubts: after appreciating the WB14 built for the Benetti shipyard, they wanted as similar a tender as possible for their 100 m megayacht. However, the sheer size of the garage presented the boutique shipyard in Viareggio with a truly complex challenge, which its owner and founder, engineer Marco Arnaboldi, rose to with determination. The WB 10.70m LimoTender is 10.70m-long and 3m-wide, and the overall height with a lowered deckhouse is 1.80m, the same size that her guests can enjoy inside once the deckhouse is raised. It can hold fourteen people and four crew members in all."We didn't just stick to the mandatory dimensions in height and, of course, length," explains the engineer from Viareggio. "In addition to the four electromechanical actuators that allow the deckhouse to be raised and lowered, complemented by a safety catch to ensure safe navigation, the WB 10.70m LimoTender is also equipped with internal jacks to raise it during hauling operations, thus avoiding the classic cables and heavy external hooks that are very dangerous in rough sea conditions. The aesthetics of the garage, with two simple arms, improve as a result, and operations are safer and more practical."The designer Giorgio Cassetta is responsible for the tapered profile. The outfitting of the WB 10.70m LimoTender has already started in the Viareggio shipyard and includes the construction of the refined carbon composite/PVC foam sandwich that characterises all the tenders made by Wooden Boats. The tender is powered by two Volvo Penta D3 diesel engines (220 hp each) with a stern drive capable of a top speed of 35 knots, a cruising speed of 25 knots and with a range of 200 nautical miles. Delivery is scheduled for spring 2022.Wooden Boats was founded in 1984; the Arnaboldi naval engineering office offers highly specialised services in the field of luxury displacement and planing yachts, as well in the fields of military and commercial boats. Studio Arnaboldi has collaborated with leading Italian brands such as Benetti, Sanlorenzo, Pershing, Mangusta (Effebi), Admiral, SA, Perini, VSY, Rossinavi, Azimut and Baglietto and has also worked with top designer names, including Della Rolle Giacomelli, Tommaso Spadolini, Giorgio Cassetta, Marco Casali, Francesco Paszkowski, Luca Dini and Guido De Groot. Swan 108: The Latest Addition to the Swan Maxi Fleet
Finnish shipyard Nautor’s Swan has announced the latest maxi yacht to be added to their range: the Swan 108 sailing yacht. The Swan 108 is based on the evolution of the previous Maxi Swan, particularly in regard to the exterior lines, but with the addition of innovative solutions never applied before by the Finnish yard.“Last December I anticipated the plan to have a bigger sister to the Swan 88 to fill the space between the Swan 98 and Swan 120,” says Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Group. “It was an anticipation that we are here to announce officially. With the awe-inspiring teamwork of international designers – German Frers, Misa Poggi and Lucio Micheletti – we have been able to design and sell the first Swan 108. This yacht is the expression of our philosophy: she draws on the amazing heritage we have at Nautor and sets a new and contemporary tone.” Designed with moderate freeboards like every Swan yacht, this new model offers seaworthiness and great comfort at sea even in very rough conditions, and she runs very gently in waves. The innovative deck layout comes in two versions for the cockpit. The owner can choose a step in the aft deck area or a completely flush deck. Both solutions mean that the area is suitable for sunbathing or just as a lounge area to sit and relax.“We always start a project with a clean slate as a way to investigate and double check the choices available and to match the briefs from the sales force closely,” says German Frers. “There is no specific change you need to make once you go over a 100’ but just continue observing the mathematics and laws of physics. Specifically: length changes linearly, areas are squared, volume is cubed, and stability varies to the 4th exponent”.The innovative coachroof is beautiful yet functional, with an extra-large companionway leading to the saloon to give an idea of continuity with the cockpit. Innovation isn’t only in style, but also functionality; for example, helm stations have been moved forward and in a higher position to enhance visibility and control of the yacht, bringing the aft part of the cockpit completely available for sunbathing, relaxation, and the beach club area. The sail plan takes advantage of the brand’s experience in building performance cruiser yachts for efficiency and easily managed sailing. Any possibility, from a cruising-oriented in-boom furling to racing-square top mainsail, is available for the mainsail, while the long base of the fore triangle allows having up to four stays to divide the forward sail area. The interiors, designed by Nautor’s interior team and Misa Poggi, offer great livability and comfort for both the owner and guests. The yacht has an owner’s suite forward plus three guest cabins complete with private heads. The Swan 108 offers great privacy to both owner and crew, who have a separate area with three cabins and a crew mess.Nautor’s Swan was founded in 1966 in Pietarsaari, Finland. The builder entered the superyacht market in 1999. Since then, the yard has continued building high-performance sailing yachts in three different lines; ClubSwan, Swan Yachts and Maxi Swan Yachts. Vitruvius Yachts: The 66m Yacht Is Currently Under Construction at Rossinavi
Construction on the 66m Vitruvius yacht recently began at Rossinavi’s facilities in Viareggio, with delivery expected in 2023. Based on the Vitruvius Lifestyle yacht design, its contract was signed in December 2019 and, as a sign of the times, the development phase was efficiently and successfully completed entirely through Zoom video conferencing technology. Philippe Briand reflects on what he has learned from the process: “On a recent call with the owner of our 66m Lifestyle yacht project currently under construction at Rossinavi, we joked that this must be the first yacht to be built on Zoom, because we have been working together for over one year now without ever having physically met. It has been a surprisingly educational process, even after all these years of working in yacht design.” As a global citizen, the yacht’s owner plans to exclusively use it for private holidays with friends and family. Having chartered twice a year for the last 20 years, the client is a focused and discerning yachtsman who has compiled a precise and extensive wish list for his dream yacht during this period. The owner’s representative on the project is Fabrizio Loi of Florida-based new construction specialist Interyachting, while interior design is being carried out by Enrico Gobbi.“It has been a fascinating and stimulating process designing this 66m yacht, as the owner is one of the most thorough and knowledgeable clients that I have had the pleasure to work with in my four decades as a yacht designer,” adds Briand. “By meticulously recording every detail and preference for his perfect yacht over the course of two decades’ chartering, he has created a comprehensive design reference that includes an extensive photo archive. Alongside the guidance of his owner’s representative, we were provided with very detailed feedback and preferences. Every line, every single volume of the yacht has been scrutinised. One would think this tiresome, but it was quite the opposite because the team feeded off the gentlemen’s input and experience and I think we are delivering a superior yacht; and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable project to work on together. The benefits will no doubt be seen in the final outcome of this special Vitruvius yacht when launched in two years’ time.” Philippe Briand is the founder and designer of Vitruvius Yachts Ltd. He made his name designing award-winning sailing yachts under his own brand name and building on that experience has led him to create a revolutionary range of motor yachts: Vitruvius Yachts with a range in size of over 100m in length. With over 12,000 boats built to date, Philippe Briand could reasonably be considered the most prolific yacht designer of our time. Tom Brady Will Be One of the First Clients of the Wajer 77
American legend, the famous NFL player and seven time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has announced that he will be one of the first to take delivery of the new Wajer 77.“I was in New England for a lot of years, which is kind of a boating community,” said Brady during the Wajer 77 livestream launch. “But moving down to Tampa Bay last year, I live right here on this beautiful bay. The first thing I did when I got here was I said, ‘I need a boat. I need to get out here on this beautiful water.”Brady already has the $2 million Wajer 55S. His newest Wajer 77 will cost around $6 million and will have the same name as the first one – “Viva a Vida” – which in portuguese means “celebration of life”. “It’s a great name and I think we're gonna stick with that one. It’s been great to us, it’s a beautiful boat and I look forward to having one that is just a little bit bigger,” explains Brady. The 23.5m yacht can accommodate nine people, which makes her the perfect companion for longer trips. All cabins have ensuite bathrooms, while thick doors, special sealings and a hovering interior reduce sound. The new Wajer’s vessel was designed in collaboration with Van Oossanen Naval Architects and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design.Powered by triple 900 hp Volvo Penta IPS engines, the Wajer 77 has a top speed of 37 knots. A perfect boat for a real adventure!Wajer Yachts was founded in 1992 by Dorus Wajer on the lakes near Amsterdam. The first Wajer built was the Captain’s Launch 7m Classic. Now the model range includes the Wajer 38, Wajer 38S, Wajer 38 L, Wajer 55, Wajer 38 S, Wajer 38 HT and the newest Wajer 77. Credits: Wajer Yachts
