Life on board: In Memory of Queen Elizabeth II
Today the United Kingdom and the world said a final goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II at a state funeral, which is taking place at Westminster Abbey. Presidents and prime ministers, kings and princes from all over the world are joined with hundreds of thousands of people who have lined London's streets. We decided to dedicate the article to Her Majesty. During her 70-year reign as British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has spent plenty of time on board boats in her role as Commander in Chief of the British Royal Navy. In 1937 the young Princess Elizabeth went to the sea with her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, on the 128m Royal Yacht HMY Victoria and Albert, which was launched in 1899 and was in service from 1901 to 1939. In 1960’s The Queen and Prince Philip had their personal yacht – the 63 feet Bloodhound, built by Camper and Nicholsons and launched in 1936. Prince Philip often used to cruise on her with Prince Charles and Princess Anne. The family sold it in 1969.Bloodhound is a classic racing yacht with many achievements, such as winning the Fastnet Race (twice), the North Sea Race, the Southsea to Brixham Race and the Round the Island Race.Sailing yacht BloodhoundThe family continued to attend Cowes Week with The Queen on board the HMY Britannia. The yacht was launched from the John Brown & Company shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland, on 16 April, 1953. The ship's name was a closely guarded secret, only being revealed when Queen Elizabeth II smashed a bottle of Empire wine and announced to the expectant crowds "I name this ship Britannia… I wish success to her and all who sail in her". HMY BritanniaThe yacht was in service from 1954 until 1997 and became the 83rd such vessel since King Charles II acceded to the throne in 1660. For over 44 years the Royal Yacht served the Royal Family, traveling more than a million nautical miles to become one of the most famous ships in the world. To Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Britannia provided the perfect Royal residence for glittering state visits, official receptions, Royal honeymoons and relaxing family holidays. Four Royal honeymoons were enjoyed on board, Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones being the first in 1960. In 1995 The Queen cruised around the Outer Hebrides islands of Western Scotland. The yacht was decommissioned in 1997. "Looking back over forty-four years we can all reflect with pride and gratitude upon this great ship which has served the country, the Royal Navy and my family with such distinction," said Her Majesty The Queen. Since 2017 Britannia has been sitting at a dock in Edinburgh and attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year. In 2011 Her Majesty made her 16th visit to Australia. During that tour, The Queen and Prince Philip rode up the Brisbane River by boat on October 24.In 2012, The Queen led a historic flotilla of 1000 boats along the Thames during the 60th anniversary of her coronation with the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. But before the show revs up the Queen, accompanied by Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, took a nostalgic trip on the Royal Yacht Britannia. Queen Elizabeth II died on 8 September aged 96. She will be buried at Windsor alongside her late husband, Prince Philip. Credits: picture alliance; Wikipedia
Amer Yachts and Simrad Yachting Collaborate on Environmental Protection
Green Assistant is the system devised and developed by Simrad Yachting with Italian Amer Yachts. Combining electronics and C-Map cartography to support sustainable navigation, it was in the spotlight at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2022, the major event held last July in the principality of Monaco, where it won the special Coup de Coer award.Amer 120The jointed victory was celebrated at the Cannes Yachting Festival. During the show, Permare Group CEO Barbera Amerio was presented with the Coup de Coer, a special award made by the jury to highlight how a virtuous relationship between a boat builder and its suppliers can deliver important achievements in terms of sustainability.Particular interest was shown in the Green Assistant project developed by the Amer Yachts with Simrad Yachting, which uses the electronic platform Command to create integrated solutions that help the captain navigate in the most environmentally sustainable way possible. The Green Assistant system uses data connectivity to suggest action that is necessary, or at least advisable, in terms of position information, the state of the boat and the operations the captain intends to perform.Simrad and Amer celebrating the Coup de Coer at the Cannes Yachting Festival The use of Green Assistant, which caught the eye of the jury and Prince Alberto of Monaco himself during their visit to the Amer Yachts stand, is linked to the problem of wastewater discharge near the coast, an important issue not only for the Principality of Monaco but also elsewhere. The system can automatically deactivate the pumps if the captain tries to discharge wastewater in areas where this is prohibited. C-Map cartography, combined with electronics and information technology, becomes a vital tool to comply with the law, such as when cruising in marine protected areas or along a jagged coastline where judging the distance from it can be difficult. But because of the Command platform’s integration with the cartography, the system can also do much more, such as reducing speed automatically if the boat is in an area with a limit, like a marine park, the entrance to a port, or an area where whales have been sighted. If the system detects that the generators are on and the boat is cruising at speed, it advises the captain with corrective action, and likewise if the boat is very noisy in a protected area (because of the engines or the stereo system, for example).NSO24 evo3SAll the data collected can be stored and made available not only to update the cartography, but also the databases of universities and researchers, such as those used to study whale routes and sightings.“This initiative demonstrates how virtuous collaboration between yard and supplier can become a model to emulate and represent a paradigm shift: we have demonstrated that every single action can contribute to achieving ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) objectives. I am very pleased to have been the first to believe in this project and to see Simrad implement it on our yachts. It demonstrates that a simple idea can become reality thanks to an exceptional partner with great sensitivity and motivation,” said Barbera Amerio, Permare Group CEO.In addition to the cup, the award consisted of a cheque for 2,000 euros, which the winners donated to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.Amer Yachts was founded in 1990, when the Permare Group began to build boats with this brand destined to quickly become synonymous with quality and customization. The founder of the company is the Amerio family. Over the last 40 years, the Permare shipyard has created handcrafted products considered niche, with over 80 yachts tailor-made for Italian and international clients. Credits: Simrad Yachting
Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 Delivered in Miami by TISG
The Italian Sea Group has announced the delivery of the first Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 in Miami. The debut in South Florida represents an important achievement for the Group, confirming its commercial expansion plan in the USA, which already began in the early season with the opening of the first flagship store in East Hampton, Long Island, a reference area for the nautical sector on the American East Coast. The delivery of the first yacht in Miami waters consolidates the relationship between TISG and Prestige Marine Imports Lamborghini Miami.“We are very proud of the success that the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht is enjoying in the United States, a market that offers interesting growth opportunities in line with the Group's international strategy,” says Giovanni Costantino, founder & CEO of The Italian Sea Group. “It is a highly performing yacht, engineered with a very low draught allowing docking in shallow waters and, with its 63 knots, can reach the Bahamas in one hour. The commercial success of this project continues, so much so that next sales will be delivered in the first semester of 2024 despite the fact that the production is at full speed.”The Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht has been awarded as Best of the Best 2022 in the luxury industry within the “Motor Yacht Weekend Cruiser” category by Robb Report, after receiving the award in the “Motor Yacht under 25 meters category” at the 2022 International Yacht and Aviation Awards, which took place this May in Venice. The Italian Sea Group’s Tecnomar brand produces and commercializes yachts in steel and aluminum up to 50 meters. Founded in 1987 and acquired by the Italian Sea Group in 2009, Tecnomar has launched 289 yachts through the years, also thanks to the Tecnomar Evo line, which has earned great success in the Asian market.Credits: TISG
New ISA GT 33 Presented by ISA Yachts
ISA Yachts has presented a new model of the Granturismo line: the compact 33 meters уacht. Her exterior and interior design is by Architect Enrico Gobbi - Team for Design, while the naval engineering is by Palumbo Superyachts. The exterior design portrays a great coupé effect through the pronounced bow, the superstructure located toward the stern and the arches connecting all the decks. On both the main and the upper deck, continuity between the indoor and outdoor layout is achieved through the use of the same materials and the purposeful design of the lighting system. The placing of these areas on a single-level floor further facilitates the merging to create a dynamic and versatile environment. To this purpose, the cockpit sofas on the main deck have been designed so as not to obstruct the view from indoor. The upper deck features a circular dining room which, thanks to the 180-degree sliding window, opens the view on the cockpit, again for the purpose of creating a single indoor/outdoor space. ISA GT 33 also has a hydro-massage swimming pool in the bow.ISA GT 33 can accommodate up to 10 people, with the owner cabin located on the main deck forward, while two VIP cabins and two double cabins with twin beds are below deck. The service is guaranteed by five crew members. With aluminum hull and superstructure, ISA GT 33 is equipped with twin MTU 1620hp engines powering it to a top speed of 21 knots and guaranteeing a cruise speed of 19 knots.Palumbo Superyachts took root in 2008, when the Columbus Yachts brand was established, and in 2011 it launched its first 54m superyacht, emblematically christened Prima (the First). Currently, Palumbo Superyachts comprises a representative office in Monaco and a logistics network of five shipyards in the Mediterranean (Ancona, Malta, Marseille, Naples, and Savona); it also operates the following brands: ISA Yachts, Columbus Yachts, Mondomarine, Extra Yachts and Palumbo SY Refit.Credits: ISA Yachts
Oceanco’s 3: A Fleet of Exceptional Oceanco Brokerage Superyachts Heads to Monaco Yacht Show
Sea Walk.Pedigree yachts with low engine hours and strictly private usage are rare and sought-after offers on the brokerage market today. Previously known as Lady Christina, the 62m Oceanco Sea Walk has only once changed hands since delivery and never been chartered. She was delivered in 2005 for a very experienced yachtsman, who meant to use the vessel for worldwide cruising and opted for electrical convertors to provide easy shorepower connection anywhere in the world as well as large storage areas, good sized pantries and well-appointed crew and service areas. Gently sloping exterior lines, resembling the flowing sea waves, and large windows effectively conceal the huge volumes of this 1,116GT vessel. Inside, the yacht features an art deco interior penned by Francois Zuretti. All of the wood onboard is finished in a satin varnish which shows the beauty of the timber without the intimidating gleam of high gloss.A notable twist from conventional layouts is a formal dining room that is located forward on the starboard side of the main deck that spans roughly half the hulls width. A special feature of this dining room is the large opening window which gives the feeling of an open terrace restaurant. The forward part of the main deck is occupied by the wheelhouse, ship office, captains cabin and a bunk cabin suitable for children or additional staff. The owner’s suite takes up the whole upper deck. It includes a bedroom with superb views through a semi-circle of windows, an impressive dressing room, a spectacular split-level ensuite bathroom and a skylounge opening to a private exterior deck. The headroom in the owner’s suite reaches 2.3m.The four guest cabins are located on the lower deck aft and have silk panelled walls and attractive marble bathrooms with bathtubs (double cabins) or showers (twins). The fabrics, marbles and joinery details slightly differ from cabin to cabin for a touch of personalization. All cabins have fully updated entertainment systems and controls. In 2014 Sea Walk underwent an extensive refit, during which Azure Yacht Design and H2 Design studios collaborated on extension of her main deck aft to add a large jacuzzi and create a corridor from the lower deck guest lobby to the beach club. In the redesigned layout you can pass through a watertight door into the tenders garages and beyond to the stern platform without crossing the main saloon dressed for swim. The beach club incorporates a fully tiled steam room with fibre optic ‘twinkling star’ ceiling, and a shower.Though never been chartered, Sea Walk is built to MCA standards and can easily acquire compliance should her next owner decide to operate her commercially.Sea Walk has completed her 15 year survey in 2021.Luna B.Another remarkable Oceanco yacht that is a must-see in Monaco is the 66m Luna B, which is also available for charter. Her elegant lines and masterful engineering are complemented by sophisticated yet inviting interior from Alberto Pinto. The earthy colour palette features Macassar ebony and sycamore joinery with nickel-plated finishings. The light and airy sky lounge benefits from large floor-to-ceiling windows and there is a dedicated cinema room. The yacht sleeps 16 guests across eight cabins. Her full-beam master suite converts to two VIPs and features two dressing rooms and spacious en suites. The classical rounded transom reminds of vessels of a bygone era, but opens to reveal a contemporary beach club.A pièce de résistance on Luna B is her expansive sundeck designed around a beautiful scallop-shaped pool with swim jet and spa functions. An impressive aft sunbathing area can also be used as a helipad. The sundeck also features a seating area and wet bar, two large tables that merge into an 18-seat table, an outdoor cinema, a disco and a barbeque.Sea Pearl.Fresh from a 2022 refit by the NCA yard in Italy, which involved several key upgrades, a full repaint and a refurbishment inside and out, this 60m is a beautiful representation of Oceanco craftsmanship and Winch Design style.Expansive guest deck spaces include a large sun deck, spanning almost half the length of the yacht. It features a touch-and-go helipad and sun lounge with wet bar and BBQ aft. There is also an outdoor cinema, disco, a large glass-backed jacuzzi with sunpads forward and climate-controlled gym beneath the hardtop. On the bridge deck aft there is a semi-circular glass indoor-outdoor dining area with spectacular views. The main deck aft has a lounge that can also serve for informal dining with a buffet bar and there is internal access to the fold-down swim platform. The main saloon itself is open plan with just a partial bulkhead separating the lounge from the formal dining area forward.Sea Pearl sleeps 12 guests in six suites inlcuding a duplex owner's suite with a private observation lounge opening to a private foredeck terrace.
