Spotted in London last week, 55-meter Gene Machine, delivered by Dutch shipyard Amels in 2013, has now been seen on Amsterdam.
With a beam of 9.4 m and a draft of 3.35 m, she has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. This adds up to a gross tonnage of 650 tons. Performance wise the yacht is powered by MTU engines of 2000 hp each giving her a maximum speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots.
Gene Machine can accommodate 10 guests in 5 cabins with an interior design by Enzo Enea and an exterior design by Tim Heywood.
In December 2016, Gene Machine's crew, led by their captain, Fraser Gow, has rescued a 13-meter sailing yacht halfway through its crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. The crew also managed to cycle 4,736 miles for charity on the superyacht's sundeck gym during the crossing from Gibraltar to St Marteen. Thanks to their effort, £10,737 were raised which will be divided amongst the Heart Research Institute and Duck & Drakes Cancer Trust.
The Gene Machine's crew is also actively using the social media channels with drone footages and relative transparency in their activity. Covered by most yachting publications but also CNN, Gene Machine's strong brand could one day yield it significant resale value, an advantage that the 53-meter Mischief is already capitalizing on in the charter space with a strong Instagram audience built around the fun activities one could undertake onboard the yacht.

The newest 83m concept Dust was revealed by Spainished-based designer Jay Aberdoni. To create the vessel with the smooth and sleek silhouette Aberdoni was inspired by the stardust left behind by a comet. He also applied sports car aesthetics to create that notable exterior. For example, the wheelhouse features an inclined windscreen. Dust low bulwarks and large glass windows provide uninterrupted sea views. The outstanding 310 sq.m beach club with direct access to the sea, also has a fire pit, a bar, social area and place for relaxation under the sun. For active guests Dust is equipped with a garage suitable for one limousine tender, jet skis and an 8-meter tender. A glass-bottomed swimming pool aft located below the beach club. Dust can accommodate up to 16 guests across seven cabins on the main deck and owner suite on the upper deck. The interior features a neutral palette and minimalist furnishings. A spiral staircase with a curved LED screen, that connects the main deck, saloon, beach club and terrace, is located at the center of the living area. The new construction sale has been announced by FGI Yacht Group – the Oasis 34M Benetti was sold by vice president and sales broker Frank Grzeszczak, Jr. The yacht became the second new construction of 10 total Benettis sold by Frank Grzeszczak, Jr. over the past three years. The new unit of Benetti Oasis 34m series is scheduled for delivery in 2024. Benetti’s new Oasis 34M fiberglass superyacht, the younger sister of successful Oasis 40M, brings the Oasis Deck® solution in a length of just 34 meters. The yacht features opening wings extending the deck close to the water but safe from the waves; a magnificent pool close to the sea and within the social area; an obstructed 270-degree view off the stern; a mixture of sun and shade to let guests enjoy the deck at every time of the day; and a design that weaves the entire deck into a vast convivial oasis from the main saloon to the sea. The yacht’s exterior styling is the work of UK firm RWD and the interiors are by Bonetti/Kozerski, the New York based architects specializing in residential and hôtellerie projects, chosen by the shipyard for their international and cosmopolitan approach to design that values the aesthetics of discrete luxury. She can accommodate 10 guests across five cabins and seven crew members. The owner’s suite with full-height windows occupies the entire forward section of the main deck and can be fitted with a terrace that opens out on the starboard side. The design of MAKO with its silver colour and fluid exterior lines has been inspired by the Mako species of shark. Mako will be powered by a propulsion system that combines hydrogen, fuel cells and electric engines to be able to operate with a zero-carbon footprint. You will also be able to find battery storage system and solar panels which contribute to the yacht’s sustainable design.A key feature of Mako is a wide beach club platform for sports and activities with an aft garage door nearby for tender storage and manoeuvres. The wraparound aft deck also features a large seating area conceived as a soft “island” sunken into the teak aft deck that offers 270-degree views.Another main interior area is the "pavilion". Situated above the top deck, this space is intended to be used as an observatory, panoramic lounge, fitness studio or yoga space. Sailors from HMS Duncan battled rough conditions to save a yacht drifting out of control into the middle of the English Channel.The Portsmouth-based destroyer responded to a plea for help from the coastguard after the yacht, with one person aboard, was reported heading out to off Weymouth with no working engine, power or communications – and in worsening seas.The Type 45 was anchored in Weymouth Bay around 5.30pm on Saturday amid trials and training following an extensive maintenance period.Despite sustained wind speeds of 30-35 knots, worsening sea conditions and reducing visibility, the ship launched one of her Pacific 24 sea boats with a crew of seaman specialists, an engineer and a medic aboard.The motor yacht in distress was drifting rapidly offshore in the wind and tide around Portland Bill and had no flares or working radio equipment onboard.The sea boat crew were about to abandon the search as conditions grew worse, until Leading Engineering Technician Jack Davies spotted the yacht’s mast in the worsening gloom.He boarded the vessel, reassured and supported the sole sailor aboard and repaired the engine in difficult conditions.‘The conditions were challenging but the team and I had the right kit, in the right place at the right time to answer the call from the Coastguard,’ said seaman specialist Petty Officer Adam Drozdowski, the sea boat’s coxswain.Medical assistant Petty Officer Tom Austin added: ‘It took real skill to put us alongside in the heavy sea without hitting the other vessel, with waves crashing over the front of the boat.‘The individual onboard was in the later stages of shock and clearly in a dire condition. I’m glad that we were able to make a difference.’After restoring power to the vessel, the team handed the situation over to the RNLI Weymouth lifeboat team, before returning safely back to HMS Duncan.‘It was really good to put everything I’ve learned into practice under some really testing conditions,’ said Jack.HMS Duncan has now resumed her trials.Credits: Royal Navy
