Dutch builder Heesen has announced the construction progress on the first hull in the new 5000 Aluminium Class, the 50-metre full-aluminium YN 18950 Project Aquamarine presented in February 2019. The hull and superstructure have been now joined together at the facility in Oss.
The yacht’s exterior design by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects features a curved and sporty superstructure and a crisp design language. He commented on the design elements:
Aquamarine combines Omega Architects heritage with the build pedigree of Heesen, producer of elegant and sporty aluminium superyachts. This new class features the ‘integrated hull and body design’, which was firstly featured in the iconic 65m FDHF ‘Galactica Star’.
He added, that a raised aft-deck of the model features a full-height beach club that directly connects to a flush swim platform level, harmoniously combining with the ‘integrated hull and body design’.
Furthermore, the 5000 Aluminium Class boasts brand new hull designed by Heesen in-house naval architects in cooperation with hydrodynamicists Van Oossanen Naval Architects.
According to the yard, the hull design was optimised increasing efficiency at 12%. The key elements of this important achievement include raising the transom to make it sleeker, and incorporating the propeller tunnels in the hull to reduce the draft.
As to the yacht’s interiors, Cristiano Gatto took responsibility focusing on contemporary and dynamic exterior lines. The interiors are trademarked with large windows and fixed and loose bespoke furniture with carefully selected pieces by such renowned Italian manufacturers, as Armani Casa and Bottega Veneta. The calming, colour palette works in harmony with textures and geometric patterns.
Cristiano Gatto comments:
I believe that Japanese accents help to create the right mood on board. Simplicity, linearity and bright colours are the main themes throughout. Our aim was to provide the owner and guests with a sense of wellbeing and relaxation. Clean and uncluttered living gives a sense of balance and love for beauty.
With her shallow draft of only 2.15 metres, Aquamarine represents a versatile cruising yacht ideal for the clear water bays of both the Bahamas and the Mediterranean Sea. Propelles by MTU new green oceanic engines with reduced NOx emissions, Aquamarine is the world’s first fast-cruising yacht below 500 GT to be IMO Tier III compliant.
Currently in her outfitting phase, Aquamarine is due for delivery in January 2021. Meanwhile, Heesen has just delivered the 50-metre motor yacht YN 18750 Masa, also continuing work on currently working on 55-metre Project Pollux and 55-metre Project Castor among others.
