UK-based designer Andy Waugh, formerly part of H2 Yacht Design, has presented six eye catching concepts that push the boundaries of the superyacht styling to an extreme degree.
1. Epiphany
Measuring 130m, Epiphany features a unique silhouette and a bold exterior. The concept uses the minimum of styling lines and structures creating an elegant effect belying its practicality and large volumes of accommodation. Her alluring features include a cinema and gaming area as well as a fully equipped gym and spa. Epiphany stands out from the crowd not only because of her unique and distinctive aesthetic but also because of the layout which limits crew areas to the very upper and lower decks. This allows a great deal of freedom to optimize the guest accommodation.
2. Revolution
The superyacht's design is a unique, sophisticated 3D form with well-defined surfacing and inherent dynamism and strength. The upper structure appears to be cantilevered from the hull side giving the design tension and a distinctive profile. Boldly faceted surfaces flow along diagonal lines to sharp points creating the impression of purpose and focus in the direction of travel. Despite the superyacht's radical appearance, her style contains similar levels of accommodation to any other yacht of comparable LOA and conforms to all conventional standards. In the current specification there are two pools, one at the bow and the other on the sun deck and a sociable, coffee style seating area on the main deck aft.
3. Nouveau
Inspired by the works of the classical exponents of the Art Nouveau style including Alphonse Mucha and Antoni Gaudi, the superyacht's style incorporates the key principles of dynamism and organic form in an innovative manner. Nouveau is aimed at the more modern client with a relatively small entourage who prefers to define themselves by their style and taste in design rather than by sheer size. Practicality and efficient use of space were not primary concerns for the concept but despite its radical looks it has the potential to be a fully functioning yacht for owner and crew alike.
4. Expedition
Expedition is a high-volume 75m explorer yacht with unparalleled levels of accommodation and a range of features usually only seen on yachts above 90m LOA. The initial specification was developed in collaboration with a potential client whose high expectations inspired the arrangement of the vessel. The concept's styling uses strong graphical elements and long sweeping curves to disguise the high levels of internal space and potentially ungainly helicopter and swimming pool features.
5. Reality
Reality represents a superyacht which aims to to create an extremely practical and versatile vessel with an optimized layout, broad appeal and scope for personalization. The styling of the concept is designed to disguise the practical nature of the vessel using a strong diagonal feature and segmented graphical elements to add dynamism and lightness. Overall the concept has a perfect balance of interior and exterior space creating as a by-product a profile which looks well-proportioned and classic whilst being completely unique and distinctive. According to the designer, the versatility of the design makes it ideal for a passionate client or as a speculative build for a forward thinking shipyard.
Blommendal 65 superyacht concept represents a radical refit project based on an existing explorer hull and platform. The traditional, elegant form of the hull is incorporated into a dramatic superstructure seamlessly to create a unique and distinctive design. Diagonal lines and clever graphical devices have been employed to exaggerate the explorer yacht aesthetics while the same basic proportions and layout have been retained from the original vessel minimizing the need for architectural and hydrodynamic modifications.
