Moments ago winners of the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show Awards were announced at a gala reception held at Monaco's Hotel Hermitage. 3 superyachts, selected from 13 nominees, split 4 awards amongst themselves.
Galactica Super Nova, the 70-meter Heesen flagship delivered earlier in 2016, won the finest new superyacht award and the best interior design award. Commissioned in December 2013, the superyacht was built and delivered in just 41 months with her Espen Øino exterior design. Thanks to her high-performance Fast Displacement Hull Form coupled with an innovative propulsion system, she can reach a maximum speed of 30.3 knots.
The propulsion system consists of two MTU wing engines with fixed pitch propellers and a third central engine with Rolls Royce booster water jet. The first time such a configuration has been applied to a superyacht, it provides acceleration from 0 to 30 knots in just 75 seconds, making Galactica Super Nova not only one of the 200 largest yachts in the world but also one of the fastest.
70-meter sailing yacht, Sybaris also picked up an award at the ceremony for its exterior design. Launched earlier this year, Sybaris is the second largest sailing yacht the Italian shipyard has built after Maltese Falcon. The naval architecture on this project was handled by Perini Navi's in-house team and French designer, Philippe Briand who had previously worked with the group on the 73m motor yacht Grace E. Specifically chosen by the owners, her interior design was undertaken by the U.S. studio PH Design. Each piece of furniture is custom-designed and the overall concept epitomizes the luxurious contemporary allure of Sybaris.
Genesi, the first yacht ever built by Italian shipyard, Wider picked up the MYS/RINA award given for its eco-friendliness by the Italian classification company, RINA. The new brand is also now working on the larger, 50m Project Cecilia which they're currently fitting out. The 47m Genesi however remains for sale and is currently looking for its first owner at an asking price of €26,500,000.
