After nearly 20 years as Silver Yachts’ Senior Naval Architect, Nick Stark has announced the opening of the Nick Stark Design naval architecture and design studio. It’s launching this week with the presentation of three 70m shadow vessel designs – the 70m Cygnus, 71m Auriga and 75m Aquila.
Cygnus – The Swan (70m)
Named for its graceful lines and spacious, welcoming reception area, guests arriving by helicopter have ample opportunity to relax and freshen up before joining the mother ship. Cygnus also boasts generous spaces for storage, recharging and maintaining support craft such as submarines.
Auriga – The Charioteer (71m)
Named for its combination of load carrying, shallow draft and rapid repositioning, Auriga’s ample tender-and-toy capacity is combined with a design aesthetic that will complement any yacht. Featuring lightweight, high-performance, all-aluminum structures, each vessel in the Constellation Series represents a different view of the shadow boat role.
Aquila – The Eagle (75m)
Named for the shell doors that stretch out to reveal an expansive beach club, wellness centre, disco and secluded retreats, Aquila becomes a ‘second space,’ providing yacht-standard facilities while still being able to carry a full complement of toys.
The vessels leverage Nick Stark Design’s modular design platform, making use of shared systems (such as propulsion and shaftline arrangement), structures and design processes. This synergy results in vessels that are Lloyds Register SSC and Red Ensign Group Regulation A compliant. The long waterlines and wide separation create hulls that are highly efficient and easily driven. Design studies have shown outstanding performance from IMO Tier 3 compliant engines ranging from Cat V12s to MTU16v4000s.
Aquila, 75m
Power generation is hybrid. Batteries enable whisper-quiet operations when moored and allow for ‘load-shaving,’ reducing maintenance costs.
The fully compliant helideck is load and size-rated for large helicopters such as the 15 seat AW139 for both day and night operations.

Spending nearly 20 years as Silver Yachts' senior naval architect, Nick Stark started at Silver Yachts (then called Hanseatic Marine) during the early design phase of hull number one. He worked to help realise the Espen Oeino penned Silver, Silver Zwei, Smeralda, Silver Fast and Bold from concept to sea trials. Opening up a bespoke design studio has allowed Nick to focus on projects that had been waiting in the wings for when he’d have the time, energy and patience to bring them to life.
