#1. Anna Christina III
Delivered by Jongert in 2000, the 42-meter luxury sailing yacht features a classic exterior design by Tony Castro and interior styling by Peter Sijm. Anna Christina III is able to accommodate up to eight guests in her four cabins. She reaches a top speed of 12 knots from her two MTU engines.
#2. S/Y A
The 143-meter S/Y A by Nobiskrug is the largest sail-assisted motor yacht in the world. She was built in 2017 for Andrey Melnichenko to the design by Philippe Starck, who was also responsible for the Russian billionaire's M/Y A exterior.
With masts taller than Big Ben at nearly 100 meters in height, S/Y A reaches a top speed of 20 knots without using her sails. She boasts a digital control system that has a touch-sensitive sheet of black glass, allowing the crew to raise and lower sails and the anchor with a simple swipe. Among the yacht's key features is also an underwater observation pod and a large swimming pool with a retractable roof located towards the bow of the boat.
#3. Pelorus
Commissioned by a Saudi Arabian businessman, the 115-meter Pelorus was built at Lurssen yard in Bremen to the exterior design of Tim Heywood and interior styling of Terence Disdale. The 11th largest superyacht at the time of her launch in 2003 was acquired by Roman Abramovich the following year. The Russian billionaire had her extensively refitted at Blohm & Voss, adding a second helicopter pad, among other features. With a full-time crew of up to 46 members, apart from the security contingent, the boat remained in his ownership until 2007, when Abramovich’s ex-wife received Pelorus as part of her divorce settlement.
Since 2011 the mega-yacht passed through the hands of the Dreamworks co-founder, David Geffen and the Royal Family of Aby Dhabi, until she landed in the hands of the UK-based property developer, Samuel Tak Lee in 2016.
#4. Golden Odyssey
Before the delivery of the 123-meter Lurssen yacht Golden Odyssey in 2015, the largest boat in the Golden Fleet of the former deputy minister of defense of Saudi Arabia, Prince Khaled of Saudi Arabia, was the 80-meter Golden Odyssey by Blohm + Voss. Having to yield her primacy to the new flagship, the latter changed her name to Grand Ocean. Little is known about the new, larger superyacht. She is said to be designed by Martin Francis, though he has not confirmed this. Her interior is rumored to be the work of the late Alberto Pinto.
#5. Project Shu
One of Lurssen's most secretive projects, referred to under the project name Shu, this 130-meter yacht was floated out on December 15. The news has been followed this week by the emergence of an even larger, measuring over 130 meters, project Lightning from the German yard’s shed.
