South African shipyard Southern Wind has delivered the third hull of SW105 series. The yacht launched earlier this year and christened ThePower of 2 has now departed from Cape Town after extemsive sea trials for her maiden voyage to the North Sea.
The yacht features interior and exterior design by Nauta Design, with the Farr Yacht Design responsible for the naval architecture. This cooperation has already met recognition from the industry, with 29-meter Southern Wind yacht Seatius winning Neptune Award for the 2019 Best Sailing Yacht Interiors at the Boat International Design and Innovation Awards.
The Power of 2 was ordered by an experienced sailor who was looking to step up from a smaller sailing yacht to faster sailing and exploring remote locations in comfort and safety. She is ideal for long- range navigation and easy sailing given different sea conditions.
The yacht’s twin rudder system combined with the lifting keel (3-5m) allows access to more remote shallower ports and anchorages, and with the keel down this configuration provides excellent upwind light air performance. Meanwhile, the yacht’s fixed bowsprit with an integrated anchor arm has been designed for easy anchoring.
She is built with a Deck Saloon configuration that was specifically designed by Nauta Design and Southern Wind Shipyard. That allows for a tall and easily accessible engine room, located below the saloon. A high capacity battery installation allows for longer periods of silent running and greater autonomy, a real plus for a yacht that will spend most of the time away from harbours and marina facilities.
The style of the Power of 2’ interior is essential and modern at the same time. The oak furniture combined with muted and toned textiles and upholstery create a warm atmosphere on board, with no compromise to design or functionality.
The interior features Southern Wind Shipyard’s most popular owner’s cabin, with the forward layout. This comprises three comfortable en-suite guest cabins amidships with crew quarters and galley aft; a layout that allows maximum privacy for crew and guests.
The main saloon is a light, bright open space where eight to ten people can relax together in comfort on sofas or at the dining table while enjoying panoramic 270° window views. Immediately forward of the living area, lies a fully equipped custom bar that separates the main saloon from the owner’s private area.
The Power of 2 has been conceived and built to be respectful in terms of sustainability, making her an ‘eco-friendly’ yacht. Marco Alberti, SWS General Manager explains:
As an example, water and fuel treatment systems on board this SW105 were more complex than normal, incorporating fuel polishers and water softeners. Added to that, fridges are stocked with carefully stowed glass bottles filled with drinking water that is desalinated, re-mineralised and sterilised on board.
Southern Wind Shipyard was founded in 1991 by Italian entrepreneur Willy Persico. Located in the city of Cape Town, South Africa, the shipyard specialises in high-performance composite sailing yachts from 25 to 35 metres, designed for both relaxed cruising and high-octane sailing. Among other noticeable vessels of the yard stands a 30-metre sailing yacht Blues to be seen at Palma Superyacht Show 2019.
Jubilee is a 110m luxury yacht, built by Oceanco, which specializes in building custom superyachts in aluminium and steel, and delivered in 2017. She is definitely one of a kind. Not only her size makes her that special, but it’s more even about the way she looks and feels. Jubilee combines fast lines and smart surfaces with elegant proportions. The whole look of her is very modern and, in some point, is futuristic.“The hull shape is deliberately minimalistic to contrast with the superstructure,” says Igor Lobanov of Lobanov Design, which created Jubilee’s exterior. “At the same time, a massive white funnel pins the entire layers down to the white hull, leaving a feeling that the white structure goes inside through the decks.” After Jubilee was launched in 2017, she achieved two milestones: being the largest yacht built at Oceanco and the largest yacht built in the Netherlands. Her owner from a Middle Eastern royal family invited Sorgiovanni Designs to work with the shipyard on the interior. From overhead, the superyacht looks like a contour map of an island, with each deck appearing at different heights above sea level.“The 3-D modeling was quite a challenging task, which pleased my mathematical part of the brain,” Lobanov says. “Each of the layers meets and splits under certain rules, which can be noticed from different angles.”No wonder, Jubilee has achieved numerous awards, including being Yachts International’s editors’ pick as the best exterior styling in 2017.The motor yacht can accommodate 31 guests in 16 cabins with 39 crew members. Four VIP cabins are found on the bridge deck, while there are a further 10 guest suites on the main deck. Her huge main saloon is about 135 square metre space focused around a large television at one end and big and cozy lounge chair at the another.Jubilee also features the tremendous pool deck with a built-in aquarium. Just below is a beach club, hammam, gym, and access to the water via a fold-down transom.Uniquely designed stairs and an elevator connect all five decks. Her top speed is 18.5kn and she boasts a maximum cruising range of 5000.0nm at with power coming from two 4828.0hp MTU diesel engines.

A lot of people have spent more time on this boat than at home over the last 20 years,” says relief captain Sebastian Rauber.Lady Moura has never been chartered, she hasn’t even moved much. “Cruising – we didn’t do too much,” says Captain Matthias Bosse.26 guests can be accommodated across seven decks of which one is a dedicated owner's deck which includes six staterooms.
