South African shipyard Southern Wind has delivered the third hull of SW105 series. The yacht launched earlier this year and christened ThePower of 2 has now departed from Cape Town after extemsive sea trials for her maiden voyage to the North Sea.
The yacht features interior and exterior design by Nauta Design, with the Farr Yacht Design responsible for the naval architecture. This cooperation has already met recognition from the industry, with 29-meter Southern Wind yacht Seatius winning Neptune Award for the 2019 Best Sailing Yacht Interiors at the Boat International Design and Innovation Awards.
The Power of 2 was ordered by an experienced sailor who was looking to step up from a smaller sailing yacht to faster sailing and exploring remote locations in comfort and safety. She is ideal for long- range navigation and easy sailing given different sea conditions.
The yacht’s twin rudder system combined with the lifting keel (3-5m) allows access to more remote shallower ports and anchorages, and with the keel down this configuration provides excellent upwind light air performance. Meanwhile, the yacht’s fixed bowsprit with an integrated anchor arm has been designed for easy anchoring.
She is built with a Deck Saloon configuration that was specifically designed by Nauta Design and Southern Wind Shipyard. That allows for a tall and easily accessible engine room, located below the saloon. A high capacity battery installation allows for longer periods of silent running and greater autonomy, a real plus for a yacht that will spend most of the time away from harbours and marina facilities.
The style of the Power of 2’ interior is essential and modern at the same time. The oak furniture combined with muted and toned textiles and upholstery create a warm atmosphere on board, with no compromise to design or functionality.
The interior features Southern Wind Shipyard’s most popular owner’s cabin, with the forward layout. This comprises three comfortable en-suite guest cabins amidships with crew quarters and galley aft; a layout that allows maximum privacy for crew and guests.
The main saloon is a light, bright open space where eight to ten people can relax together in comfort on sofas or at the dining table while enjoying panoramic 270° window views. Immediately forward of the living area, lies a fully equipped custom bar that separates the main saloon from the owner’s private area.
The Power of 2 has been conceived and built to be respectful in terms of sustainability, making her an ‘eco-friendly’ yacht. Marco Alberti, SWS General Manager explains:
As an example, water and fuel treatment systems on board this SW105 were more complex than normal, incorporating fuel polishers and water softeners. Added to that, fridges are stocked with carefully stowed glass bottles filled with drinking water that is desalinated, re-mineralised and sterilised on board.
Southern Wind Shipyard was founded in 1991 by Italian entrepreneur Willy Persico. Located in the city of Cape Town, South Africa, the shipyard specialises in high-performance composite sailing yachts from 25 to 35 metres, designed for both relaxed cruising and high-octane sailing. Among other noticeable vessels of the yard stands a 30-metre sailing yacht Blues to be seen at Palma Superyacht Show 2019.
