Amsterdam-based design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design presented another groundbreaking concept at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019. With Aqua, a 112-metre fully powered by hydrogen and fuel cell technology superyacht concept, Sinot aims to fuse groundbreaking technology with cutting-edge design.
Hydrogen, which has been labelled as the fuel of the future for the last decades, finally found its way to the world of Superyachts. In collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects, the designers at Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design created the design for the first 112-metre superyacht based on liquid hydrogen and fuel cell technology.
The fully operational 112-metre concept designed with a speed of 17 knots and a range of 3,750 nautical miles, optimises hull, energy and space efficiency while providing a maximal superyacht experience at the highest comfort level for discerning owners.

For 2019’ MYS concept yacht, we focused on an environmentally sensitive subject: yacht propulsion and the choice of fuel. To take this discussion into an entirely new realm we have initiated AQUA, our new yacht concept, using a hydrogen-electric system capable of catering for all onboard energy needs.
Aqua is fueled by hydrogen, a unique concept which represents a significant progression towards achieving a new balance between nature and technology. The system is based on the use of liquified hydrogen, stored at -253°C in two 28-ton vacuum isolated tanks. The liquified hydrogen is converted into electrical energy by proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, with water being the only by-product.
All parameters in terms of output, system layout, range and physical dimensions where translated to a complete hydrogen / electric based system. The generated electrical energy is transmitted to Aqua’s switchboards, where it is distributed to provide power for propulsion, auxiliary systems and hotel services. Large batteries buffer the generated electricity to ensure power demands are always met.
Thanks to the electric propulsion, Aqua is also a very quiet superyacht, with very little noise or vibrations. After five months of extensive development, the team of designers and naval architects came up with a design with physical dimensions and operational characteristics that even strengthen the superyacht experience.
Aqua is featured with the spectacular, extremely spacious and beam-wide owner’s pavilion, occupying the front half of the upper deck, offers an abundance of privacy. The pavilion is arranged in a vast open-plan area of interlinked spaces, divided by finely crafted wooden screens providing intimacy and subdued lighting. Both at the starboard and port sides, floor-to-ceiling band windows supply an amazing impression of openness and freedom.
The ceiling, at a height that varies from an ample 280 cm to an impressive 380 cm at the large central skylight, is supported by an intricately crafted wooden structure. The bedroom section is located at the yacht’s axis and offers an endless sightline all the way up to the Aqua room at the bow. The owner’s pavilion is completed with a large bathroom, dressing room and an intimate private spa section. The Aqua room, located at the bow, at the far end of the owner’s pavilion, offers a top-of-the-world feeling and endless views from the best position on board.
Located on Aqua’s beach deck, close to the waterline, the expansive and naturally outfitted VIP state rooms stand out by virtue of their spacious design and highly elaborate furniture. The VIP cabin and other state rooms are focused on openness, luxury and comfort, providing a maximum sense of freedom in a highly detailed minimalist Japanese beach-style setting.
The indoor health & wellness centre is a water-world of serenity, where the reflecting waves of the water feature complement the onboard environment with their soft, vibrating motion. With an exclusive hydro massage room, a yoga space and workout floor and a massive, gym-wide hatch which opens to reveal the ocean’s surface at water level, creating the perception of exercising and relaxing on an island in the sea.
Situated at Aqua’s core, the spectacular circular staircase is one of the yacht’s defining features, winding down from the top deck to the lower deck. A true spectacle manifests itself at the lowest level, facing aft, where two vast liquified hydrogen tanks reveal their hexagonal textured surface structure behind a giant façade of strengthened glass.
The flowing exterior lines of Aqua are inspired by ocean swells – the surge of energy induced by winds and currents, boosted by the gravitational forces that control the ocean’s tides. The curved top deck culminates in a sensational bow with integrated front bow observatory, the Aqua room, as part of the Owners pavilion. The hull is a sculpted overall double curved volume, intersected by the glass band windows, which subdivide approaching the aft stepping down to the water. The raised front profile with a strong forward direction in the design, provides ample space for accommodating all Owner’s, guests and technical facilities.
Aqua is configured with a five-deck set up, utilising forward interior space through the high sheer line which subtly descends from bow to aft. The yacht has been designed to provide those on-board with the closest possible proximity to the water. The aft deck features a unique and innovative series of platforms cascading down towards the sea, while a large swim platform allows all Aqua passengers to enjoy the optimal experience of accessing the water at sea level.
Other recent superyacht concepts by Sinot comprised the 102-metre Balance and the 115-metre Art Life. Meanwhile, one of the most recent superyacht launches with interior design by Sinot studio is Feadship 77-metre superyacht Syzygy 818 delivered in September 2019 and also premiered at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019.

Lürssen has launched its 87 metre motor yacht Project Hawaii. The gross internal volume of the yacht with a length of 87 m will be 2950 GT, which is larger than, for example, the 99-meter Madame Gu (2920 GT). The hull is made of steel, and the superstructure is made of aluminum. The exterior design of the vessel was developed by Bannenberg & Rowell. Details of the layout are not reported, but the photographs show that on the bow of the main deck there will be a helipad, and a beach club with a round pool will be located in the aft part. Project Hawaii will be equipped with two MTU 16V 4000 diesel engines with a capacity of 2,311 hp. each. The yacht is expected to be handed over to the owner in 2020. The contract for Project Hawaii construction was signed 3 years ago.

Italian superyacht builder Ferretti Yachts has announced its new flagship on boot Düsseldorf 2020. The 30.48 m long Ferretti Yachts 1000 superyacht with a carbon fiber hull promises to set a record for internal volume among 100-foot boats. Ferretti Group chief operating officer Stefano de Vivo stated that Introduced Ferretti Yachts 1000 will become the “biggest 100-foot boat on the market”. The exterior of the superyacht was designed by Filippo Salvetti, and the interiors were designed by IdeaeItalia Studio. The novelty will partly inherit the appearance from previous Ferretti Yachts models, and partly it will be able to guess the aesthetics of a series of yachts with a flybridge of another Ferretti Group brand - Riva. The racers will go inside the bulwarks on the sides of the two L-shaped sofas with tables, and not close on the nose, like all today's Ferretti Yachts models. Thus, the fence will not block the view of the company of guests, which gathered in the bow. On the other hand, the silhouette of the yacht will look more elegant due to the combination of curves: a thin line of rails, a pointed nose and bulwarks of the upper deck ending in a spacious flybridge. De Vivo stressed that the “revolutionary stern” of the 1000th model will be fundamentally new to Ferretti Yachts and will “change the way our owners use the stern of the boat”, he said. During the construction of the vessel, carbon fiber will be used, which will also lead to lower fuel consumption. “Because you’re lighter, you go faster with less fuel,” Stefano de Vivo said. Details of the layout, data on the number of guests on board and driving characteristics of the Ferretti Yachts 1000 will be published later. Meanwhile, Ferretti Group chief executive Alberto Galassi described the new model as “the biggest revolution in the Ferretti Yachts brand.”

Flying Fox, the 136-meter Lurssen superyacht is ready to set new standards for what's possible to get on charters. 14th largest yacht in the world, she was designed by Espen Oeino and Mark Berryman with Imperial overseeing the construction. The curved lines of the hull and an unusual shade of gray, which the eminent Espen Oino used in the exterior design, make it possible to talk about Flying Fox as a truly unique, unique yacht. With an exterior by Espen Oeino and an interior by Mark Berryman, the yacht's key features include two helipads, capable of hosting the largest helicopters out there. Another highlight of the 136-meter Flying Fox is the generous 12-metre transverse swimming pool located aft of the main deck. The superyacht also boasts large sea terraces, swim platforms for watersports.The 16th longest superyacht and 14th largest yacht in the world in terms of interior volume, 136-metre Lürssen Flying Fox was delivered to her owner in March 2019.In addition, Flying Fox comes with a vast choice of tenders and toys. She stores nine tenders, including a custom 12.5-metre enclosed Limo, an 11-metre open Limo, a 9-metre beach landing craft and an 8.5-metre Super Air Nautique Coastal. The water toys range includes jet skis, sea bobs, and many more.

Currently under development at Dominator Yachts, the 42M Illumen will become the yard's flagship and first yacht of its series with transatlantic range. Other unusual options for this series include the option of a helipad on its bow.The Dominator 42M is now being built for a German client. “He wanted each area to represent different countries and continents,” says Pernsteiner. “For instance, the flybridge has a Middle Eastern theme, with a relaxing ambience and even a hookah lounge.” And the main deck resembles a modern, loft-style penthouse in the heart of New York City.The upper deck is Asian-style and designed for a detox zone and lifestyle, complete with a yoga studio, gym, smoothie bar and spacious windows for endless ocean views.Large glass walls and windows, modern decor and an office - the owner plans to spend a lot of time on board the yacht and equipped it with a teleconference screen, printers, scanners, etc. - it resembles a modern loft-style penthouse in the heart of Manhattan, but in the middle of the sea .One of the most unique features will be a fully integrated glass shower next to the owner's bed. Innovations in megayacht eco-design seem endless. One of the first designers to take a step forward in this direction in 2020 was a marine engineer, Philip Briand. From the headquarters of his studio in London, he presents the concept of sailing in superyachts, which puts zero-emission navigation at the center of all decisions.The latest concept from the French designer appeared after he was motivated to create a “zero-emission yacht”. This is the second concept from the new Briand family of self-contained yachts, which is on the heels of the 90-meter SY300. Briand previously described the SY200 as the "younger sister" of the SY300.The SY200 will travel in two ways: boat sails and underwater turbines, with which it will collect electricity for the 20 batteries that it will carry in its hold.According to Briand, the length of the yacht is 75 meters, and the sail is 2,000 meters, it generates more than 2,000 kW at maximum speed. To do this, he designed a helmet inspired by high-class, shorter sailboats. In particular, he emphasizes his inverted nose and central glass capsule.Ketch is equipped with a carbon fiber mast and rigging, as well as the same modern hull and upturned nose as the SY 300.
