Heesen Yachts has appointed Ruud van der Stroom as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), effective September 1. Van der Stroom, who brings extensive experience in the maritime industry, will succeed Mark Cavendish, who is retiring after a 16-year tenure with the company.
Ruud van der Stroom’s background includes training as a Dutch Royal Navy officer and studying naval architecture at the Naval Academy and Delft University of Technology. His professional career spans several years in commercial shipbuilding, including roles at Keppel Offshore and Marine and the Damen Shipyards Group, where he developed significant expertise in the sector.

Van der Stroom described the appointment as a pivotal moment in his career, expressing enthusiasm for joining Heesen, a well-established name in the luxury yacht industry. "My passion for yachting has been a lifelong pursuit, and joining such a prestigious shipyard feels like the perfect culmination of that journey," he stated.
Mark Cavendish, the outgoing CCO, leaves behind a legacy of expanding Heesen’s market presence and successfully driving the sale of both semi-custom and fully custom yachts. Niels Vaessen, CEO of Heesen, acknowledged Cavendish's contributions, noting that his experience and market knowledge have been critical to the company's success.
Vaessen also welcomed Van der Stroom to the team, expressing confidence in the innovative direction he is expected to bring as Heesen continues to strengthen its position in the luxury yacht market.
Heesen Yachts is a Dutch ship building company that specializes in custom-built superyachts in aluminum and steel from 30m to 70m in size. Founded in 1978, it has launched more than 170 yachts since its inception.
