Designed and built by Perini Navi in 2016, 70m S/Y Sybaris became winner at the 2017 Superyacht Design Awards, which took place yesterday evening in Kitzbuhel.
Shortlisted as a finalist in six categories, Sybaris won more awards than any other superyacht, taking home the gold Neptune trophies for the Best Interior Layout & Design and Best Lighting Design, as well as the award for Newcomer of the Year, which was presented to PH Design. For the Miami based interior designers, Peter Hawrylewicz and Ken Lieber, it was a particularly momentous occasion as Sybaris marked their first foray in yachting.
Reflecting on the project and the awards, the owner of Sybaris, Bill Duker, stated:
I am delighted that the extraordinary work that realized a dream was recognized by the design community, as a unique work of art that has inspired and delighted others
The sailing yacht was launched at the yard's facility in La Spezia, Italy in May 2016. The naval architecture on this project was handled by Perini Navi's in-house team and French designer Philippe Briand, who had previously worked with the group on the 73m motor yacht Grace E. The yacht was built out of alloy complete with a keel of variable draught (4.5m to 11.74m) in order to allow access to shallow areas and achieve good sailing performance. Sybaris' sails stretch over a surface of 2,300 square meters and can be controlled solely through the use of consoles in the cockpit.
She can sleep up to 6 guests in one master and two VIP rooms. Inside, Sybaris boasts a large guest area, which connects to the cockpit by way of a 4m sliding door. On deck the 18m long flying bridge offers plenty of space for relaxing or entertaining. The yacht has two carbon-fibre Cockwells tenders of 7m, one of which is a limo-tender, and are recessed below deck forward along with the 4,5m rescue tender.
Delivering this splendid jewel has been a great achievement for Perini Navi. This has happened during an important time of re-design of our organization that has proved once again the excellent quality of the passionate group of people who are the backbone of our company. I extend a special thank you to Mr Bill Duker for his insightful introduction of PH Design, who have shown the world their unique skills applied to yacht interior design
