Florida based Norwegian designer Kurt Strand has revealed his latest superyacht concept, the 161 meter sailing superyacht Norway inspired by the beauty of the Viking ships and their powerful square sails. Norway is the Strand’s vision of what a modern Viking ship would look like today with its space age technology and patented Falcon rig masts made from carbon fiber.
Three 96m tall masts are electro-hydraulic turn-able. Push button sail handling means sailing can be managed by significantly less crew than conventionally rigged yachts. All sails can be deployed or furled away in six minutes. The unique sail handling system results in much more precise maneuvering under sail enabling the sails to be used on more occasions and for much longer periods, including in close quarters of harbors and sailing on and off moorings.
Having multiple sails means that they can be progressively furled into the mast in a controlled manner and without the need for high loaded sheets or captive winches. Rotating rigs mean that the vessel does not need to be head to wind to hoist or reef the sails. The masts can also rotate to depower the rig and feather the sails. The sail load in each sail is low.
The middle mast is equipped with a sky elevator that will bring the owner's couple to 340 feet above the water level. All of the total 6000 sq. m sails are covered by a flexible solar cell foil. Power will be stored in the battery bank and can be used directly for the onboard Hydrogen production as well. In case of no wind or sunshine the yacht can be run on hydrogen fuel power cells. The yacht is engineered with two, side by side retractable keels with stabilizers. The keels can be lifted individually.
She will accommodate up to 24 guests in 12 luxury suites and 40 crew members. She will have a helipad at the fore deck with elevator to the hangar below deck, and a large swimming pool at the aft deck.
Beach club with a huge selection of tender boats, off-road vehicles, jet skis and water toys. One of the tenders is the 40 feet electric powered Beach Cruiser, an amphibious and submersible limousine tender.
Norway also features a fitness center, spa, supercar garage, cinema and a hospital.
