Project Solar, the 106-meter sailing yacht launched in September 2016 by Dutch shipyard, Oceanco and a contender to the title of world's largest sailing yacht, is currently under construction and has been named Black Pearl as she is getting closer to delivery.

Designed by Nuvolari Lenard and Ken Freivokh, with naval architecture by Dyksra, who had previously worked on the 88-meter Maltese Falcon, the Black Pearl boasts a similar structure with three rotating masts.
A spa pool aft of the main deck and a large hot tub aft of the upper deck are amongst the key known features on the 106-meter yacht. Two tenders are further located on the bow of the yacht with covers placed on top of them. Aft of the yacht is a fold-down platform that likely leads to a beach club.

Featuring a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, Black Pearl boasts 6 cabins for a total of 12 guests across 2,700GT of interior volume. From a technical side, the yacht will be powered by twin Caterpillar engines giving her a maximum speed of 20 knots.

Black Pearl's owner is soon planning to have the 106-meter sailing yacht cross the Atlantic burning only 20l of fuel thanks to her eco-friendly design.

Whilst technically smaller in length than Andrei Menichenko's 142.8-meter S/Y A, some have argued that S/Y A would rather qualify as a sail-assisted motor yacht, in this case making the 106-meter Black Pearl, effectively the largest sailing yacht in the world.
