Wider's next superyacht to launch, the 49.98 metre Wider 165, has been spotted en route to Italy, readying for the next stage of construction. Referred to as project Cecilia, the Wider 165 is on pace for a late 2016 completion. The interior and exterior was designed by Fulvio De Simoni with contribution from Wider president Tilli Antonelli and the Wider team of designers and engineers. Similar to the Wider 150, the Wider 165 features fold-down platforms on different decks. These include the main deck, in the full-beam master suite, and the lower deck, in the beach club, where they're on three sides. The Wider 165 is also similar to her smaller sister in styling and in reportedly offering more volume than similar-size megayachts. The beach converts to a garage that accommodates a floating launching system for the highly customizable Wider 32 superyacht tender. Also she will feature a touch-and-go helipad.
Just as important, the Wider 165 is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system. She further has azimuthing pods, for better maneuverability. All the on board energy sources are controlled by the Wider Management System, a next generation, smart, independent and incorporated system that controls the power supplied by the shore connection, gensets and battery packs, distributing it between the hotel systems, propulsion system and recharging the battery packs, as needed. The Wider Management System was created with the help of American company Emerson Industrial Automation.
As for the performance, Wider expects sea trials next year to confirm a 3,500-nautical-mile range at 13 knots.
The launch of the Wider 165 will round out the Italian builder's superyacht offerings, which will also one day include the new Wider 125, which was introduced at the Miami boat show this year.
