Yesterday, during the course of the Monaco Yacht Show, megayacht yard, Ficantieri Yachts, have announced, jointly with Pininfarina, with whom they've previously cooperated on Destriero (68m) in 1991. The yard wants here to achieve a high-level mix between cutting-edge technology and style. With a length of 85m, as its Italian name suggests, the Ottantacinque project will have a gross tonnage of 2,460, 5 decks and twin pools located on the main deck, raised to enjoy the view. These will have adjustable floors in order to transform the deck into a 160 square meter open platform.
The yacht will offer accommodation for 14 guests in six double cabins and an owner's cabin. Ottantacinque will transport a crew of 19 with her maximum speed of 18 knots and cruising range of 6000 nautical miles.
Ironically, this is actually a smaller size than what we've seen from Ficantieri recently but the yard believes the 80-90m market is very promising. Current major players in this segment include of course, Dutch builders Oceanco and Feadship but also Germany-based Lurssen which are amongst the most popular yards in this range. We've seen a few other players target this market such as CRN with its 80m Chopi Chopi but also Amels who is expanding their facility and is already well underway. Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri, stated: “We already are among one of the few mega-yacht builders managing all the business activities, from sales to the product life cycle. Now, thanks to this stunning project, resulting from the partnership with Pininfarina, not only we enhance our position in the sector with the highest industrial level collaboration, but also we are an Italian real point of reference in a market that, as all luxury niches, highly demands the capacities and taste of our country”.
