Two of the world’s largest sailing yachts, Eos and Athena, have booked the same timing for their coming refit projects.

The 93-metre three-masted Lürssen schooner Eos, until recently the world’s largest sailing yacht, has for some time been a regular customer for Royal Huisman’s superyacht refit division, Huisfit. The Eos team has just signed a new contract with Huisfit, taking full advantage of the flexible choice of deep water location offered to meet their needs and schedule.



At the same time, the Huisfit team is delighted to announce that the 90-metre three masted schooner Athena, built by Royal Huisman in 2004 and with a seriously impressive log book of globe-circling adventures, has booked the same timing for her latest refit programme. In 2014 the Huisfit team also took care of various aesthetic and technical updates by sending its own ’flying squad’ of specialist personnel out to Athena during a stopover in the Mediterranean.



Athena arrived on 6th of August and Eos is expected later this summer. Both yachts will be at a deep seawater location in Holland for several months during the winter “refit season”.

The unique project designed by Vripack is set to be the world’s largest sportfishing yacht
Royal Huisman will build a 52-metre powerboat named Project 406. Navi begun construction on its 40m modular hull superyacht UP40.
UP40 stands for “Utility Platform 40”, this superyacht is built on a 40 metre steel platform base for three different models according to the superstructure chosen by the owner. UP40 can be a motor yacht, crossover or sport explorer.The flexibility of the platform allows construction to begin on the hull before the owner has even decided the specific yacht configuration they would like. Delivery is scheduled for 2022.Sales manager Aldo Manna and Antonini Navi partner said: “This means that owners can personalise their superyacht when construction is already underway, and not only the interiors but also, and most importantly, the functional type. The result? Maximum flexibility of choice but shorter delivery times, because the hull design and construction have already been completed.”“It’s a complex choice requiring proven capability on the part of the engineering department, total synergy with a designer of exceptional experience and huge talent and, lastly, major investments in research and design, all of which Gruppo Antonini has in abundance,” they added.The project features a hull designed for maximum reliability and sea keeping, Designed by Fulvio de Simoni in collaboration with the in-house engineering team. The estimated range is 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots, with a top speed of 14 knots and cruising speed of 12 knots.The interior layout has a variety of options for individual customisations, from the number and size of the cabins to the smallest décor details.
Van der Valk's third 29-metre compact explorer Venera captured undertaking sea trials in the North Sea
This 28.5 metre all-aluminium design was developed in collaboration with Guido de Groot Design, Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects. The yacht hit a maximum speed of 21 knots on the trials in November. The yacht is now approaching delivery to its owners this upcoming Spring.It will have a sundeck that is entirely dedicated to leisure, with no flybridge helm station to get in the way of al fresco entertainment. Guests will be able to relax around a large dining table to port or on the compact L-shaped settee.The main deck aft will be fitted with a removable hardtop awning and a whirlpool tub flanked by sunpads. The area has an option to be converted to store a Jet Ski and many more water toys, which will be launched via a davit crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 800kg.This superyacht can accomodate up to ten guests split between five staterooms, including a main deck owner’s suite, two VIP doubles and two twin cabins, while the aft crew quarters is suitable for a staff of up to four people.Explorer will feature 1,650hp MAN V12 diesel engines for a top speed of 20 knots and comfortable cruising at 17 knots. Construction update on Project Al Waab II
Alia Yachts stated that the owner asked for a "modern and fresh design" providing "comfort, space, luxury, privacy and stability at sea." The simplicity of the layout and amount of outdoor space was specifically asked by the owner. Key features of Project Al Waab II include a sub-500GT interior, focus on exterior spaces and semi-transparent sides, creating a wind protected area.This yacht can accommodate a total of 12 guests in six suites, including a two-tier master suite. The master cabin sits on the upper deck, provides wide-reaching ocean views, while the dressing room and bathroom sit on the main deck below.Glass plays a leading role in the design of Project Al Waab II, as the yacht features floor-to-ceiling windows and glass bulwarks.Çelik described the yacht as an "exciting project.""As it will be rated below the 500GT threshold, which is quite a challenge for a 55 metre yacht. First 30-meters Extra X99 was sold
EXTRA Yachts, a brand of Palumbo Superyachts, is pleased to announce the sale to an American customer of a new model: Extra X99. Innovation and uniqueness are the key factors for the success of this line, which is now enriched with a new 30-meter project. Extra X99 stems from the know-how of Palumbo Superyachts technical team and Guida Design who developed both exterior design and engineering. The technical team has studied every detail and the market has immediately given us a positive feedback also on this new project."The cockpit, with its 65 square metres, together with a transformer on the deck, provides also a large sundeck, a living area with two large C-shaped sofas, a dual-mode dining table and bar counter to make the most of conviviality at the astern galley (which has always been a distinctive feature of the EXTRA layout on the Extra X76 and Extra X86 models).
