This week, Finnish builder Baltic Yachts launched its highly anticipated Baltic 142 sloop-rigged performance cruising yacht Canova. The 43.3-metre vessel was conceives to stand out from other yachts in her size range through her advanced performance design and racing features.
The exterior design conceived for comfortable long-distance cruising was commissioned to Farr Yacht Design in partnership with Gurit. Meanwhile, Lucio Micheletti has collaborated with Baltic Yachts' in-house design team for the vessel’s interior styling.
The 9-metre-long sliding foil that is mounted thwartship at the maximum beam mark is the most distinctive feature of Canova. She is set to become the first yacht in her size category employ that so called DSS technology that has proved highly effective in smaller vessels before.
Placed directly beneath the owner's cabin amidships, the foil has been designed for speed sailing. Depending on the conditions, the technology will increase the yacht’s estimated top speed of 25 knots at 5-20%.
Canova will also be propelled with a new diesel-electric drive system for more efficient, less noisy and vibrations sailing than when on conventional motors. Another outstanding feature of the yacht is a lifting keel able to reduce the draught from 6.5 metres to 3.8 metres.
The yacht will offer accommodation for up to eight guests across three cabins and a master suite. A shaded al fresco relaxation spot will be provided by a long Bimini hardtop stretching out from the coachroof over the cockpit.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery later in 2019. Among other activities, Baltic Yachts has recently unveiled 112 sailing yacht Liara, while a 44.6-metre sailing yacht Baltic 146 is currently in-build at Jakobstad facility.
