Reckmann Yacht Equipment, a member of Deutsche Yachten, has supplied three custom-made stainless-steel furlers for the 127-meter Koru, the world's largest sailing yacht. Each furler weighs around 900 kilograms and serves one of the largest sail areas ever seen in yachting. The furlers were delivered to the Oceanco shipyard, where the yacht was built in utmost secrecy and reportedly commissioned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
According to Reckmann CEO Marcus Schuldt, the project involved a year of planning and calculation by three engineers, followed by a year of production. The furlers are a new milestone in Reckmann's 130-year company history, which began entering the megayacht business in 1988 with the Extrabeat (36m). Since then, they have supplied furlers for significant projects such as Georgia (48m), Kokomo (60m), Vertigo (66m), Aglaia (66m), and Aquijo (85m).
The furlers are crucial components for the massive and structurally complicated "Koru", a schooner that has been in development since 2018. Reckmann had to go deep into development to supply the three furlers, which are essential for the yacht's impressive architecture, unrivaled living space, and exceptional performance. "Koru" is expected to set sail soon, and the crew will rely on Reckmann's expertise to ensure the yacht's smooth operation.
"This is a very special business in which we, as a German company, have gained a unique position," says Marcus Schuldt. "For us, German engineering stands for the highest functionality and operational reliability."

"For such highly specialized companies as Reckmann Yacht Equipment, this group was once created. The current delivery from Reckmann brilliantly illustrates the extraordinary quality of our members," comments Claus-Ehlert Meyer, managing director of the German Yachts Working Group.
The Deutsche Yachten working group consists of hand-picked German companies that are active in the construction and outfitting of yachts over 24 meters in length. The working group is part of the German Boat and Shipbuilder's Association, whose members are the leading companies of the German yacht industry. At present, the working group comprises over 60 companies from all over Germany.
