Danish design studio Norm Architects has presented minimalist interior architecture for the 20-metre sailing yacht Bella, the first of the Y Yachts model Y7 manufactured in Greifswald by Michael Schmidt Yachtbau.

Ridding of unnecessary ornamentation, the interior has been streamlined ‘to achieve a simpler framework, following the natural curves of the ship’.
The decor is lit by a series of lamps integrated into the shelves and cabinets. Deploying dark wood veneer and papier stone for the floors and walls, the architects highlight the warmness of the space, while its serene atmosphere is enhanced by blackened steel finishes and coarse-woven textiles.

Dark-hued wood crafts several fixtures in the below-deck spaces, such as the kitchen cabinetry, wardrobes in the bedroom, and dining table. Meanwhile, the soft furnishings, for instance, seating banquette, are upholstered in an oat-coloured fabric.
Katrine Goldstein, managing director of the practice, explained to Deezen:
We wanted to challenge the general understand of a luxurious yacht interior and move away from brass, glossy wood and other typical elements that people see as belonging.

Bella is to the first Y7 model for Y Yachts, a company headed by regatta sailor Michael Schmidt. The sailing vessel will be trademarked with a reduced weight of 28.5 tons and a concealed rigging system.
For Copenhagen-based Norm Architects the concept has become the first design work on a yacht's interior. Previous projects of the studio included concrete holiday home in Sri Lanka and a contemporary farmhouse in Suffolk.
