The Scuderia 65 was built for an owner who loves offshore racing and she had a successful year. From her base in Chioggia in the Adriatic, she has undertaken numerous regattas, including the dramatic Aegean 600 endurance race that weaves around the Greek islands. The season culminated in October with Cinquanta and the Barcolana race. And she has also won a major design award.
Penned by Harry Miesbauer, the Scuderia 65 was always optimized for form stability and blistering offshore performance. She is simple to sail short-handed, while a powerful rig and the option of a lifting keel give her thrilling pace in strong winds.
“Together with the owner, I opted for a more powerful hull shape,” says Miesbauer. “We knew it would give us an edge when it is breezy, and in some conditions we are even faster than our VPP velocity predictions. When I was on board we did 21 knots on a broad reach in 20 knots of wind and the two-man delivery crew reported a top speed of 28.7 knots.”
But performance is just one element of this yacht. The sleek hull lines and clean deck are allied with an elegant and minimal interior. At once practical for sail handling while racing and architectural in its styling, this is an interior that genuinely succeeds at combining form and function.
No wonder, then, that the boat scooped a highly sought-after A’ Design Award this year from an international jury of design experts who recognised its aesthetic qualities and sailing abilities.
In contrast to many fast IRC boats out there, the Scuderia 65 has been designed to provide a comfortable base for cruising as well. The enclosed U-shaped galley to port is well equipped and spacious, and there are three cabins. The master cabin forward is a double with a dedicated sofa area and ensuite shower room. Two flexible twin V-berths aft also have their own shower rooms, all in lightweight molded composite.
Labor-saving appliances like washing machines and ice-makers are fitted in a modular fashion, so as to be easily removable for racing. “It all goes back to a first conversation I had with the skipper and the owner during the Middle Sea Race a few years back,” says Miesbauer. “Together, we came up with a concept for a larger boat, fast offshore and with sexy lines, but where there was still a place for family cruising.”
“I believe that we have got the balance exactly right, as this is a boat that you would happily cross the Atlantic in. And despite her performance, she is not a complicated yacht. She is simple to handle two-up, and wherever we had the choice between an elaborate technical solution and something more straightforward, we have kept it simple,” comments the designer.

Cantiere Delle Marche has launched the 43m full custom explorer Acala. Acala has been commissioned by an experienced yachtsman who, over the years, owned yachts built by shipyards such as Feadship, Lürssen, Blohm and Voss. He is a repeat client for CdM, his previous Acala, a Darwin 102, cruising in the Med but also sailing the expanses of the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic and reaching the wild beauty of remote destinations and the best diving spots in the world.“I am delighted and proud of this milestone launch. She features a large windows on the main deck whose mullions seem not to join the superstructure that are undoubtedly Acala profile’s signature features. Her full displacement hull was made by Sergio Cutolo/Hydro Tec. Acala’s interior design was penned by Mexican architect Simon Hamui. Guest areas are spread over three decks and a sun deck. Acala can accommodate 12 guests across six cabins. A large lobby sits in between the main salon and guest night quarters. The full beam main deck, from amidship forward is dedicated to guests and owners. Three large VIP’s and an owner suite to starboard side are flooded by natural light from large windows. Two twin cabins are located on the lower deck.A spacious panoramic sky lounge located on the upper deck and includes the dining area. A large cockpit features dining and lounging areas, a swimming pool and lots of space to relax. A partially shaded sun deck integrated into the profile provides the social hub for Acala’s guests with an al fresco dining, bar, vast sunbathing area alongside a second swimming pool. A dumbwaiter connects the galley located on the lower deck to all deck, sun deck included, to convey food and drinks and ease the work of crew.With a total length of 43,10 meters, a beam of 8.60m, thanks to hull geometry, 62 400-liter fuel tanks, and the extremely frugal consumption of her twin Caterpillar C32 Acert engines 746kW each, Acala will have a range of above 5 000 nautical miles at 10 knots and a top speed of 14 knots. “Being chosen by experienced owners such as this gentleman who decided to have his second yacht built by us, after having owned yachts built by the most reputed Northern European brands, is the best possible prove that our commitment, dedication, technical skills and quality are second to none,” says Ennio Cecchini, CdM’s CEO. Design firm Isola Corvus together with beiderbeck designs introduces a new sailing concept, the 41m Velarca 135. She is designed to fill the missing spot in the yachting industry. “Velarca 135 is our answer for the sustainable future and to the environmental goals set in Glasgow 2021,” says in the company statement.Velarca has a streamlined, motor yacht like profile featuring a very large beach club at the stern, providing a stylish lounge area and a very large swim platform, with additional space for effortless indoor-outdoor living and entertaining. For functionality and easy access Velarca 135 has a lift to the front bulkhead of the beach club which makes all decks and areas safely accessible for everyone.The generous layout has two versions. The deluxe version with the large owner’s cabin will accommodate 10 people, the charter optimized layout has cabins for 12 guests. All cabins are large and equipped with a private toilet and shower with plenty of window space. Cabins are located nearby the staircase that leads to the large dining and living room upstairs. The yacht's general arrangement and styling as well as the main technical features such as the completely new kind of rig are specifically designed to make the transition from motor yachting to a more low carbon alternative, sailing, as effortless as possible. Even though the nature of Velarca is clearly a cruising yacht, the hull shape, keel and the rudder are the latest available technology from offshore racing circuits. The yacht also comes with three different keel options depending on the intended use and the sportiest fixed keel version provides a racing yacht like performance.Velarca 135 has a completely new kind of rig with three self-tacking and hydraulically furling jibs (The “Fisherman sail” being upside down) that can be opened or reefed by using the push buttons at the cockpit. Handling the sails of this yacht doesn't therefore require a small army of deck crew but instead it has been automated as far as possible. The 62m Nobiskrug’s project Cap d’Ail (formerly known as Project 794) will be completed at Lürssen. The vessel that left the Nobiskrug's Rendsburg facility on January 22, arrived at the Lürssen site in Bremen last weekend. The hull was originally laid in June 2019, but since the Nobiskrug has financial difficulties it will be finished at Lürssen. The exterior design was created by Espen Oeino. The yacht spreads across five decks and has expansive exterior deck spaces. Details were hidden from the public, but it’s known that she will feature a spa area with a seven meter glass pool, a spacious tender garage and plenty of water toys. Imperial Yachts, as the owner’s representatives, will oversee the final construction phase up to delivery of the yacht. The Gladius superyacht range was presented by design studio Sturge and Toth in collaboration with Y.CO. Named after one of the fastest fish in the oceans, the swordfish, its exterior has sharp and elegant lines. It also parallels the striking power of the Roman army sword: The Gladio. The range includes three platforms, starting with a 43m. The longest will be a 74m vessel and the 62m is placed in the middle. One of the main design intents is the upper deck and sundeck superstructure on all ranges, built as an aluminium space frame within a smoothly sculpted glass geometry, where transitions of spanning convex and concave shapes realize exciting reflections as a key design feature, and partial see through photo-voltaic elements nurture its glowing appearance by night, playfully displaying the yachts energy conscious yet undisclosed technical features. Panoramic views through the advanced geometries from these framed glass structures within spaces with grand ceiling heights allow for unmistakable atmospheres also at night, where fluorescent particles melted into the glass appear as a high tech homage to the beauty of Scandinavian northern lights. During daytime these particles and solar panel flakes drop a homogeneous yet clustered shade, casting a pattern inspired by vintage military camouflage nets to the teak deck, while fully glazed aft sections are intended to transform into grand open decks by smart convertible sliding panels. “The larger vessels of the range include options of split deck layouts at the upper deck, where Loft like interiors translate into a concentric gallery overlooking the bridge and main deck lounge where an almost free floating bridge connects straight forward to the spacious master cabin and grandmaster office space," says Toby Sturge, S&T Co founder.Double height ceiling sections break up the flowing layout of the practical GA, allowing for views up and down between decks at certain cut out areas where large installations of fiber optic and glass sculptures mix in with brushed natural root woods. Whilst high contrasts of different haptic surface treatments reassemble a range of topographic patterns taken from 3d scans of ocean floors, panels of monochrome wood finishes are surrounded by polished stainless steel and soft woven silk and leather finishes, fusing classic styles and conservative inspirations with radical, futuristic influences of artificial Intelligence and virtual reality.Credits: Sturge and Toth

Overmarine Group has sold the 44.47m Mangusta Oceano 44. She was sold to an American client in cooperation with Ale Navarro from brokerage house HMY Yachts. “At the moment Mangusta is represented overseas by all three product lines, with the number of all-metal vessels steadily on the increase. The Mangusta Oceano 44 is a super modern “Miami Style” loft, characterized by unprecedented use of glazed surfaces and large sliding doors on all decks that keep all onboard areas seamlessly connected – a feature and a new lifestyle that did not fail to captivate the сlient”, explains Mangusta President Americas Stefano Arlunno, who supervised the sale in cooperation with Ale Navarro from HMY.The yacht’s exterior and interior design came from Alberto Mancini, a naval architect penned by PierLuigi Ausonio Naval Architecture. The 44m superyacht spreads across three decks and features two swimming pools and the spacious beach club, who conceived to be the very heart of social life on board. The shipyard’s Design Department is already working with the client to select custom solutions and materials capable of truly reflecting the owner’s personal style.Mangusta Oceano 44 has a range of 4,500 nautical miles, a maximum speed of up to 16 knots, and a cruising speed of 11 knots, with maximum comfort ensured at all times by zero-speed and underway stabilizers.Unit number 4, Project Parma, is currently under construction and will be available for delivery in summer 2024.Overmarine Group was founded in 1985 by the Balducci family.
