Dutch shipyard Damen, parent company of Amels, has confirmed the successful sale of its 70-meter support vessel, Game Changer. The yacht will now return to Gorinchem in the Netherlands for further customisation. Damen had listed Game Changer on the market asking €40 million in May 2017 according to the Timeline index.
The vessel features a fully certified helideck so owners can take larger helicopters on long range flights to their mother yachts and land safely in a wider weather window. Lowering the helicopter into the hangar protects it from the elements so it is refuelled and available for take-off without causing hassle, disruption and noise on the mother yacht.
"The strength of Damen's global business means we can build these large and sophisticated vessels on speculation" detailed Mark Vermeulen, Product Director at Damen. "And we also have the breadth of experience and facilities to offer fast customisation with the same team that built her. So owners get a brand new vessel that meets their unique requirements, but within a matter of months – not years."
In addition, Game Changer has 250 square metres of open deck space for tenders and toys, such as carrying an 11.3 metre Wajer tender, a 10.5 metre Damen RIB and a U-Boat Worx submersible on the main deck.
The large deck crane makes logistics and handling simple, fast and safe. Below deck there is a further 110 square-metre storage space/dive centre. The yacht support vessel has offices, facilities and accommodation for 22 crew and staff. It can carry a huge amount of extra provisions, fuel (marine, aviation and petrol), luggage and spare parts.
Game Changer is Damen's fourth support vessel sold in the 70-meter segment of the market, with a total of 12 Damen support ships either delivered or currently in build. The next available one is a 55-metre YS 5009 Adventure, which will be delivered before the summer of this year.
