Indonesian designer Pradipta R. Hakim secured the coveted 2024 Young Designer of the Year (YDOY) Award for his innovative yacht concept, Blueminance. This marks Feadship’s inaugural sponsorship of YDOY, underscoring its commitment to nurturing emerging creativity within the yacht design community. The announcement unfolded at the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards ceremony in Kitzbühel, Austria.
The YDOY award, renowned for propelling young designers into the spotlight, aligns with Feadship’s ethos of promoting innovation in yacht design. Farouk Nefzi, Chief Marketing Officer at Feadship, expressed, “We firmly believe in nurturing aspiring talent and fostering a culture of attainable innovation in yacht design.”
Entrants, all under 28 years old, were tasked with envisioning themselves as junior designers at Studio De Voogt, Feadship’s design division. Their mission was to craft a superyacht concept to be showcased at Feadship’s yacht show displays, emphasizing futurism, environmental innovations, cutting-edge technology, and a practical deck layout. The length of the yacht was left to the designer's discretion, with an additional requirement to render an interior design concept, anticipating future onboard lifestyles.

A jury of twelve esteemed superyacht design professionals meticulously assessed 26 entries, shortlisting six finalists. Jury Chairman Roger Lean-Vercoe commended Hakim’s design for its "strong, innovative, and attractive lines," accompanied by a well-drawn general arrangement plan and an appealing interior concept.
Tanno Weeda, Head of Design at Studio De Voogt, expressed intrigue about Hakim’s presentation, stating, “I believe it is a buildable, Feadship-worthy design.” Weeda emphasized the importance of encouraging open-minded talent within the industry, supporting Feadship’s collaboration with Boat International Media for the seventeenth edition of the YDOY program.
Pradipta R. Hakim, a student at Indonesia’s Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, not only gains exposure through Feadship and superyacht shows but also receives a cash prize of EUR3,000 to advance his career. The YDOY program, enriched by Feadship’s sponsorship, not only acknowledges talent but actively contributes to the evolution of the next generation of yacht designers.
