After a successful introduction over the winter season, the Antibes port will be growing its offerings for crews based in Port Vauban.
Port Vauban, Europe’s largest port by volume, has announced that it will be continuing its Crew Program of events and activities into the summer. The decision to extend the program year-round is based on the success of its first season running the initiative over the winter and spring.
The dedicated Crew Program team has crafted a varied roster of events that cover wellness, sports and social activities, as well as professional development, giving crew of yachts docked in Port Vauban an opportunity to make the most of their time in Antibes.
“The port is very large and caters to many different yachting segments, from smaller, locally owned pleasure craft to the largest superyachts in the world. The thinking behind the Crew Program is to build a strong sense of community and help provide an opportunity to connect all the crews that use Port Vauban, as well as offer some fun activities. We are here to create a positive environment for the crew and, although we have only been running the initiative for a few months, so far the feedback has been very positive,” said Marianne Fourticq, Director of Port Vauban’s Crew Program.
A VARIED MIX OF ACTIVITIES
Highlights of the winter season Crew Program have included complementary yoga classes, basketball tournaments, golf days, accompanied bike rides around the Côte d’Azur, and trips to local ski resorts and to see the Antibes Sharks basketball team.
In March, Port Vauban hosted a “Job Dating” career fair in the Bastion St Jaume to provide a networking platform for crew seeking work, with over 150 on board roles open to candidates, and seasonal positions for land-based professionals looking to work at Port Vauban and its sister ports in Antibes-Juan Les Pins, Cannes, Nice and Golfe Juan.
As well as continuing the Crew Program over the summer months with new sporting activities and social events, Port Vauban introduce now Café Ponton, a complimentary weekly breakfast truck that will provide crews with a place to enjoy a sociable alfresco meeting point in the mornings.
“Although the summer season is a lot busier for many crew, who have less personal time over the coming months, we see the Crew Program as a great way to offer some fun activities off the boat, such as early morning or evening sporting activities, paddle boarding, dockside barbecues and the weekly food truck. We are excited to continue the momentum of the Crew Program,” added Fourticq.
VAUBAN 21 AND FUTURE PLANS FOR THE PORT
The Crew Program has given the Port Vauban team a valuable opportunity to engage one-to-one with the crews in Antibes, both those already working on yachts as well as those looking to find work via crew houses and recruitment agencies. This improved engagement is already proving fruitful in creating a better understanding of what captains and crew are looking for from the port, as it continues its development of services and facilities.
A weekly Captains Apéro with complementary drinks and snacks has been organised by Port Vauban at the IYCA Beach Club as a way to engage with the superyacht captains both in Port Vauban and on the Quai des Milliardaires. In particular, this has assisted in helping captains to understand the ongoing developments of the new Vauban 21 project since the acquisition by Riviera Ports, providing an opportunity to discuss the project with Port Vauban’s directors in a relaxed and informal setting.

ABOUT PORT VAUBAN - NEW CONTRACTS & PORT LAYOUT
The current consignment of contracts that Port Vauban Antibes has for yachts of all sizes is due to expire on 31 December 2021, and so the Vauban’s team is in the process of revising its layout and resigning contracts with existing clients, which will come into effect on 1 January 2022. The contracts will have a 24-year term maximum with guarantee of use.
Approximately 800 berths are currently for sale, including 300 for yachts from 20 to 170 meters. As one of the only ports in the region offering long-term leases of this nature, it provides owners with a unique opportunity to secure a premium berth and enjoy the best yachting location in the Med.

Damen Yachting has successfully launched the first Amels 80. The vessel is the latest addition to the Amels Limited Editions range.The 80-meter superyacht boasts a gross tonnage of 2,175 GT and features a hybrid propulsion system for reduced emissions and improved cruising efficiency. The vessel can accommodate 14 guests across 7 luxurious suites, supported by a crew of 21. Notable features include a foredeck helipad, a 200-square-meter Sun Deck, a private Owner’s Deck, a 6.5-meter swimming pool, and a Beach Club with spa facilities.The exterior design is the work of renowned superyacht designer Espen Oino, while the interior was created by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design in their first collaboration with Amels. Paul Costerus, Designer Interior at Sinot, commented: “The Amels 80 marks the first collaboration between Sinot and Amels. A project which provided us with the opportunity to develop something truly unique. You will feel at home from the moment you step on board.”The build of the first Amels 80 was managed by Burgess on behalf of the Owner following the yacht’s sale in 2022. Grand Soleil Yachts has introduced its first weekender model, the Grand Soleil Blue, marking a significant departure from its traditional performance and long-cruise yachts. The 32ft 9in (9.99m) vessel is designed for day sailing and weekend getaways, featuring a sustainable build and electric propulsion options.The yacht is the smallest in the Grand Soleil range and sets new standards for recyclability. According to Gigi Servidati, Cantiere del Pardo Chairman, “The GS Blue represents the beginning of a new concept within the Grand Soleil range: a line that is agile, sustainable, fun, highly liveable, and designed for more immediate and flexible use.”The vessel’s design emphasizes performance and comfort, developed by naval architect Matteo Polli and Nauta Design for exterior, interior design, and layout. Polli noted, “The striking hull shape is designed to provide stability when the boat heels, to maximize power upwind. And in light winds, or when running, the narrow waterline beam delivers lower drag and therefore higher speeds.”Sustainability is a core feature of the GS Blue. The yacht utilizes Arkema’s Elium resin in its composite lay-up, allowing for recovery and reuse at the end of its life. The PET core material in the hull’s sandwich construction is derived from post-consumer waste, and the design allows for easy disassembly of components.The yacht offers fully electric propulsion as an option, featuring a 6kW pod drive from ePropulsion powered by a 190Ah lithium battery. This setup provides a range of up to 30 nautical miles at 5 knots, with the option to double that range by adding a second battery pack. The electric system enables silent maneuvering and a top speed of 6.5 knots.Performance-wise, the GS Blue boasts a 2.2m bulb keel (with a 1.8m shallow draft option) and a generous sailplan. It can achieve upwind speeds of 6-8 knots and downwind speeds of 10-12 knots. The design prioritizes easy shorthanded or solo sailing, featuring push-button electric Harken winches.Inside, the yacht offers modern Italian-style amenities including a heads compartment with freshwater shower, an efficient galley with hob, oven, and fridge, and berths for up to four, optimized for two. The interior design focuses on light and space, as highlighted by Massimo Gino, CEO and co-founder of Nauta: “A key element of the interior design is the light scheme, which ensures that even with lower ceiling heights, the yacht feels spacious and welcoming for guests.”The project is co-financed by the Emilia Romagna region as part of the PR-ERDF 2021/2027 program, emphasizing its experimental research and development nature.Cantiere del Pardo was founded in 1973 in Italy. The 56th Southampton International Boat Show will introduce several new features when it returns to Mayflower Park from September 19-28, 2025. Organizers British Marine confirmed a redesigned layout with specialized zones including The Powerhub for powerboats and Angler's Alley for fishing enthusiasts.New additions include: the Boating Academy offering educational sessions, waterside Lounge for premium ticket holders, expanded marina area with grouped vessel displays, on the Water stage featuring high-speed demonstrations. The General Council of Confindustria Nautica has designated Piero Formenti, owner of Zar Formenti, as President of the Italian Marine Industry Association for the 2025-2029 term. The appointment will be formally ratified at the association's general meeting on May 16 during the SATEC Convention in Rapallo.Formenti becomes the first president representing the small boating sector in the association's history. The selection process saw 79.04% member participation with 94.64% approval votes.Piero FormentiSince founding Zar Formenti in 1979, specializing in inflatable boats, Formenti has served as association director since 2008 and vice president since 2019. He currently holds the position of vice-chair at European Boating Industry (EBI), having previously served two terms as president (2015-2019)."My experience provides a unified vision of the industry," Formenti stated.
