In a rare spectacle, a fleet of classic Feadships took to the waters of Haarlem and Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from June 16th to 18th, delighting onlookers fortunate enough to witness this remarkable gathering. The occasion marked the 10th Feadship Heritage Fleet Rendezvous, an annual event that brings together owners of Feadships over thirty years old. Paying tribute to the legendary naval architect and long-time Haarlem resident, Frits de Voogt, who had a hand in designing many of the Feadships present, added an extra touch of significance to this special rendezvous.

All Feadships aged thirty years or older are eligible for membership in the Feadship Heritage Fleet (FHF), an organization dedicated to promoting Feadship's yachting heritage and fostering camaraderie among owners through various services and events. These rendezvous gatherings not only highlight Feadship's unrivaled construction standards but also serve as a tribute to the meticulous care and dedication of the owners in maintaining their cherished yachts.

This year's 10th rendezvous showcased a fleet of twenty-three classic Feadships and their owners from the United States, United Kingdom, and The Netherlands. Ranging in size from 5.5 to 18.47 meters, these motor and sailing yachts gilded gracefully along Haarlem's picturesque Spaarne River and moored along the city's quayside, two or three yachts deep. Accompanied by a marching band, the event commenced with a tribute from Haarlem's mayor, Jos Wienen, who used the opportunity to honor Frits de Voogt. As the former head of De Voogt Naval Architects from 1960 to 1995, de Voogt played a pivotal role in shaping Feadship's history. The owners eagerly lined up to greet this remarkable figure, as impressive as the oldest yacht at the rendezvous (ninety years old), albeit younger than the sprightly ninety-six-year-old Mr. De Voogt himself.

Mr. De Voogt
The festive atmosphere in Haarlem continued until the following morning when the fleet sailed through the locks of the nearby fishing village of Spaarnedam and along the North Sea canal towards Amsterdam. Once in Amsterdam, the yachts enjoyed a weekend immersed in the city's rich shipbuilding culture and heritage. They explored historic sites such as the former headquarters of the Dutch East Indian Company and the Admiralty shipyards, while gracefully cruising along the UNESCO-protected canals that define the city's charm.

The presence of the mayor, Mr. De Voogt, and Feadship's senior partners at the event is a testament to the meticulously planned and enjoyable nature of the FHF's rendezvous. It is no surprise that preparations for the 11th Rendezvous, set to take place next summer, are already underway, promising another unforgettable celebration of Feadship's timeless legacy.

Feadship was formed as a group in 1949 as a marketing partnership between six Dutch shipyards, de Vries Lentch, Van de Stadt, Witsen & Vis, Akerboom, De Vries Scheepsbouw and Van Lent Shipyard, and De Voogt Naval Architects. Feadship is well-known as one of the Netherlands’ most elite yacht builders and delivers superyachts from 50–100+ meters in length.
