35.5-metre Benetti Mediterraneo 116' yacht Botti launched
Third Mediterraneo 116’ yacht Botti was launched yesterday by Benetti.Against a festive backdrop last March 14, Benetti successfully launched the third Mediterraneo 116’ unit, a 35.5-meter with a displacement fiberglass and superstructure carbon fiber yacht in the Class product line, for delivery next April 30. The exteriors are designed by architect Giorgio M. Cassetta, while the interiors have been developed by Benetti’s Interior Style Department in partnership with Radyca, a firm called in personally by the owner who played an active role in the choice of furnishings and fabrics. The flowing, streamlined design of the exteriors is reflected in the layout of the interiors and the decor, where light and big spaces come together to create bright, comfortable settings.Fine fabrics, details in warm-coloured woods and soft lighting are the leading actors in the communal areas and the spaces dedicated to the owner and their guests. The indoor area of the Main Deck contains a comfortable lounge with a dining area and an American bar to enjoy the shared settings to the full. Further forward, the Master Suite is dominated by two large glazed surfaces and furnished with wood floors in the night area and marble for the bathroom area. Next to the Master Suite, a comfortable studio with sofa and TV creates a private rest and relaxation area. The stern area on the Upper Deck, with wood flooring everywhere, is dominated by a roomy dining area with a big round table seating up to ten people. The interior is designed for moments of leisure and fun, with a Sky Lounge furnished with a big sofa, a 75-inch TV and a game table with four seats. A big Jacuzzi and a completely personalised sun lounging space are the center of the bow area. The stern of the Sun Deck is also furnished with a customised sun lounging space, while deckchairs, sofas and sun loungers in the bow contribute to making the outdoor area comfortable and convenient. The four guest cabins are on the Lower Deck. The two VIP cabins with double beds are arranged symmetrically, while the other two guest cabins have sliding twin beds and pulman beds. Still on the Lower Deck, the three crew cabins are located in the bow area and, with the captain’s cabin next to the helm station on the Upper Deck, provide accommodation up to seven people. Top speed is 15 knot thanks to two MAN V12-1400, of 1,029 kW (1,400 mHP @ 2,100 rpm each), and cruising speed is about 14 knots. The range at 10 knots is 3,200 nautical miles, with stabilization during navigation and at anchor provided by electric stabilizing fins.
50-metre Dynamiq GTT 165
With the GTT 165, the latest and largest model in range of next-generation superyachts, Dynamiq is proving again that the days of dull yachts are over. This 50m all-aluminium superyacht with exterior styling by Dobroserdov Design is fresh, sporty and filled with innovations to outperform its rivals. The GTT 165 fast displacement hull was devised by Dutch hydrodynamic specialists Van Oossanen and is all about efficient performance. It is equipped with two underwater foils: an aft Hull Vane and a forward T-foil developed in association with US-based Naiad Dynamics, world leaders in motion control systems. As the yacht increases its speed, the foils lift the hull up, decreasing drag and increasing speed. The resulting performance of the GTT 165 proves the ability of this innovative Monegasque brand to shake up the market. Powered by twin V8 MTU engines, only Dynamiq can offer a 50m yacht capable of 20 knots that is also capable of crossing the Atlantic at 17 knots. For those who want even more speed for faster transfers, a GTS version is available powered by more powerful engines that can top 25 knots. At an economical speed of 12 knots, both models have a remarkable range of no less than 4,000nm. What is impressive is the way Dynamiq combines punchy and comfy. Thanks to the round bilge hull and sophisticated stabilisation system from Humphree, the GTT165 feels both smooth and powerful. With optional new-generation, flexible solar panels covering 55 sq/m and a Lithium-Ion battery pack, the GTT165 can stay at anchor in complete silence overnight with no generators running. Alternatively, it can provide a couple of hours of “breakfast cruising” at a speed of 5-6 knots in zero-emission mode. The yacht accommodates 12 guests and 9 crew members and comes in a 5-cabin (with a second master suite on the lower deck) or 6-cabin layout (if more party quests are coming aboard). A spacious glass-covered beach club in the transom houses a dedicated spa area that can be also fitted out as a gym. In addition to the ample lounging and socialising zone on the main deck aft, there is a huge sun deck of almost 20m in length with dining facilities for a full complement of guests, bar, cinema lounge with 75’ TV, and aft Jacuzzi with sunbathing area. Interestingly, the sun deck continues beyond the raised pilothouse with a generous lounging area forward and spectacular 360-degree views. “Price and performance are the key factors here,” says Sergei Dobroserdov, founder and CEO of Dynamiq. “There are so many 50m yachts below 500GT available, but we asked ourselves ‘What can we bring to the market that makes more sense for our clients?’ The answer in simple terms is a slender hull with a long waterline that is much more efficient and more comfortable in motion than a short, wide one. So rather than maximising interior volume, together with the naval architects we analysed everything an owner wants or needs in terms of general arrangement and features. We arrived at a concept of 450GT including optional sky lounge that provides the motion comfort of a 55m yacht with a conventional flared bow. The GTT 165 is aimed at today’s active owners who spend most of their time on deck in the open air and want to experience different destinations, or cross the Atlantic quickly and enjoy endless summers in the Med and Caribbean on a more manageable and economical size of yacht at the very attractive starting price of €24,400.000.” Our technical department is working hard to start construction later this year so that a forward-thinking owner can take delivery of this excitingly innovative yacht in time for the 2021 Med season. Of course, you can also create your custom GTT/GTS 165 yacht using Dynamiq’s unique Online Configurator at
Equanimity: the 91m yacht in the spotlight of the US Government
Earlier this month, the 91.5-meter Oceanco, Equanimity was seized by Indonesian authorities at the request of the US Department of Justice in a case that it has been pursuing since 2016. According to the DoJ, the yacht was purchased with funds siphoned from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, a statement that her presumed owner, Jho Low and the government of Malaysia are refuting.Built in 2014 by Oceanco in the Netherlands, Equanimity, one of the 60 largest yachts in the world, became the first yacht to be built to the new PYC standard, allowing her to accommodate up to 26 guests in addition to a crew of 28. According to a complaint filed by the DoJ in June 2017, the US believes over $250 million of allegedly siphoned funds were used to build and maintain the 91-meter yacht from World View Ltd, a company based in the Cayman Islands. The complaint goes on to refer to an exchange between a Hill Dickinson lawyer and a banker, referring to World View Ltd as a family trust of which only the Low family are beneficial owners of. Following the delivery of the yacht, just over €101 million were reportedly sent to the Dutch shipyard according to the DoJ.Following her delivery, Equanimity went on to be presented at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2014, winning the title of best boat at the show that year. Amongst her amenities are an extensive spa area that takes up most of the lower deck with a steam room, beauty salon, sauna, experiential shower as well as a swimming pool. Other features include a helipad and spacious living rooms and suites. The US Department of Justice's interest in the boat doesn't, however, stem from its many luxurious amenities. Indeed, the yacht is now caught up in an investigation into $4.5 billion that were allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB, Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund set up by its Prime Minister, Najib Razak."If you look at the documents, including the Department of Justice summons, it is only an accusation on who the owner is. There is no evidence linking 1MDB to the ship's purchase." said Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, Malaysia's communication and multimedia minister on March 5th.Amongst the individuals being investigated with regards to this case is Malaysian financier, Jho Low, the owner of the 91-meter yacht according to the United States Government. "Disappointing that, rather than reflecting on the deeply flawed and politically motivated allegations, the DOJ is continuing with its pattern of global over reach - all based on entirely unsupported claims of wrongdoing" a spokesperson for Low was quoted in Malaysian media last week according to Reuters.Following a complaint issued by the US, Equanimity was eventually seized earlier this month near Bali by Indonesian authorities. Its AIS tracking system had been switched off back on January 1st, making the location of the yacht unclear until now. According to a statement released by the captain's lawyer, he had no idea who the owner of the yacht was. "As far as the captain is concerned, what he knows is that the yacht is owned by a company registered in the Cayman Islands."
