At the 76th film festival in Cannes, BMW and boat maker Tyde made waves with the world premiere of their luxurious zero-emission yacht, the Icon. This 13m vessel, designed by BMW's Designworks studio, combines innovative technology with a sleek aesthetic.
The Icon features a flat hull and a lightweight, origami-inspired superstructure. Futuristic LED lights adorn the bow and stern, while expansive glass panels offer uninterrupted panoramic views. The yacht is equipped with foils that ensure smooth cruising with minimal drag and maximum efficiency. These wings reduce energy requirements by up to 80 percent compared to traditional planing boats.
Powered by high-voltage batteries supplied by BMW, the Icon boasts a powerful electric propulsion system. Two 100 kW electric motors, fueled by six BMW i3 batteries, provide a range of over 50 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 24 knots. The yacht glides through the water silently and cleanly, emitting zero emissions.
Comfort is paramount aboard the Icon. The spacious interior includes a generous aft entertaining area and a lounge adorned with designer furniture. Rotating seats offer a 360-degree view, and a tablet-based infotainment system provides seamless control. The central command station features a 32-inch, 6K touchscreen display emulating BMW's iDrive operating system, allowing easy access to information and functions through voice commands.
Adding to the luxurious experience, the Icon is equipped with a Dolby Atmos system, specially developed by two-time Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer. This revolutionary acoustic technology enhances the enjoyment of sustainable travel on water, creating a captivating soundscape that complements the yacht's eco-friendly nature.
