"We have used forms and proportions that express the same devotion to design, engineering and beauty that shape our cars", Aston Martin’s executive vice president and chief creative officer, Marek Reichman commented.
A joint venture is planned in a collaboration with Triton Submarines, a Florida-based company with an expertise in customized submersibles for researchers, explorers, and superyacht owners. Overseen by Aston Martin Consulting, a new division of the carmaker, the partnership has shaped a concept that will lead to an exclusive, strictly limited edition underwater vehicle.
Defined by its sleek interior, it’s a three-person vehicle with silver, blade-like pontoons and an acrylic bubble of a cabin for maximizing underwater views. The model is based on Triton’s Low Profile (LP) platform, specifically designed for superyachts. Reaching 3 knots, or 3.5 miles per hour, it’s capable of diving to 1,650 feet. At just 5.9 feet tall and 8,800 pounds, Neptune is the lightest and smallest three-person sub in production in the world.
Valued at around $4m, Neptune is expected to be delivered in about a year. The price would also include a four-week pilot training course to teach the owner how to launch, operate and recover the vehicle.
