On May 25, German builder Abeking & Rasmussen launched its 80-metre superyacht project Excellence, formerly known as Project 6505. The mammoth superyacht is set to become the yard's sixth largest vessel.
Excellence had been built to a steel hull at the Szczecin shipyard in Poland and moved to Germany in February 2018. The UK-based design studio Winch Design developed both exteriors and interiors of the yacht. Her framework relies on the same technical platform as the 81-metre Grace (ex. Kibo), featuring a 12.6- metre beam and a maximum draught of 3.5 metres.
Andrew Winch highlights:
Excellence represents a huge milestone. A completely unique superstructure, she signifies an innovative and exciting new genre for Winch Design.
Excellence is trademarked with striking and angular reverse bow, offering a silhouette comparable to a spaceship. Her exterior lines draw the eye to the bridge and owner’s decks surrounded by curved floor-to-ceiling mirrored glass, blurring the distinction between the upper deck and the panoramic skylounge. The in-house engineering team at Abeking & Rasmussen has managed to install those glass panels without disturbing the view through disruptive structures.
Hans Schaedla CEO of Abeking & Rasmussen, emphasises:
Never before have glass panels been installed in these dimensions. The unusual lines also repeatedly presented employees with major challenges. Now we have developed and successfully finished this masterpiece and can hardly wait for the sea trials.
With accommodation capacity for 14 guests, Excellence offers a swimming pool and platform, as well as Jacuzzi and sprawling beach club and impressive limousine tenders.
Excellence is scheduled for delivery to her experienced owner in summer 2019, after final outfitting at the shipyard and sea trials along the river Weser and out on the North Sea.
