Sunreef has shared the interview with the future owner of the 80 Sunreef Power Eco electric catamaran. Currently under construction at the shipyard in Gdansk, the catamaran will be customized according to the wishes and plans of the owner.
What is your experience with yachts and yachting in general?
We've been on the water since childhood, including small sailboat races, long cruises in New England, Florida and the Bahamas with our families. We have also chartered a yacht in the British Virgin Islands. Three generations of our close-knit families have enjoyed many happy moments aboard our family yachts.
Why did you decide to build an electric yacht?
Do not forget about the significant impact of large motor yachts on the climate. We have made changes to our daily lives to combat the climate crisis, so we could only consider building a motor yacht if it uses technologies that are finding applications in other sectors, such as solar energy and electric vehicles. Given our focus on sustainability in general, only the "Eco" electric yacht is in line with our values.
Why did you choose Sunreef Yachts?
We conducted the search in collaboration with our broker Staley Weidman of The Catamaran Company. This included visiting and meeting with many overseas shipyards to determine which of them are truly successful in promoting advanced technologies in the field of electric and environmentally friendly yachts. The result of our search was clear - Sunreef Yachts leads the industry through research and development, high quality manufacturing, reliable suppliers and impressive performance on the water.
Were you involved in the design process?
My wife and I, as well as our captain, designer and broker, worked directly with Sunreef throughout the project. Although we have never designed or built yachts, we have brought our own style and ideas from our home and hotel projects, as well as generally enjoyed the process of creating our future home on the water!
Where will you travel?
We will spend the summer in the northeast, part of which is familiar to us, but nevertheless there is a lot of unknown. We look forward to sailing in the Bahamas and the Caribbean during the winter when the yacht is not available for charter. The Caribbean, in particular, is something completely new to us, and it will be a great escape from the cold northern winter.
Sunreef Yachts was founded by Francis Lapp in 2002 in Gdansk, Poland. Since then, the shipyard has been designing and manufacturing luxury sailing and power multihulls.
