With the Australian Superyacht Rendezvous (ASR) as the back drop, Australian yacht designer, Misha Merzliakov, launched two superyachts concepts to an audience of VIPs and Industry. The 70-metre trimaran and 40-metre explorer yacht are both aluminium yachts and have sparked great interest.

Since launching the designs at the event on the 21 April 2018, Merzliakov, head designer of Misha Merzliakov Yacht Design (MMYD), has had five clients request more detail on layout and build costs plus a large amount of media interest.
Both yacht designs sport a strong, utilitarian profile however the 70-metre trimaran’s, ‘Greta’, look is softened by expansive decks and an infinity pool on the transom. To capture market trends, MMYD has incorporated plenty of storage and options for toys and tenders whilst the interior layout accommodates 12 guests and is aimed at the Asian Owner and their diverse entertainment requirements.
“We have incorporated the requests from clients into ‘Greta’ to include practical and plenty of storage for submersibles, tenders, dive equipment and more. There is a balance between the interior and exterior entertaining and living spaces which lend the yacht to multiple generations of a family finding an area which suit their needs,” explained Misha.
GCX40, the 40-metre explorer yacht, sports a shallow draft for efficient and long range warm water yachting. Designed for tropical reef exploration, the yacht has expansive exterior decks with lounges, plunge pool and beach club. Additionally, there are multiple options for open air dining to allow guests to connect to their environment.
“We took inspiration from Australia’s tropical reef coastline to design a yacht which would enhance the experience for the avid explorer or diver discovering Australia or the South Pacific,” continued Misha.
Aside from revealing the two concepts, MMYD also announced these designs are in collaboration with Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard (GCCM) and Shaun Phelps from Periscope Naval Architects. GCCM is a 17.5-hectare marina and shipyard on the east coast of Australia.
“GCCM is a perfect build partner. They have a similar client service ethos to MMYD and an impressive breadth and depth of trades on site. They will be able to bring our designs to life,” explained Misha, “Also, Shaun Phelps a talented naval architect, brings a wealth of Oceanfast experience to the table.”
‘We are very excited for MMYD and the interest they have received at ASR. It has reinforced to us the yachts are on trend and the place Australian designers and yacht builders hold in the international marketplace,” offered GCCM CEO, Trenton Gay.
MMYD has previously received international attention when Misha was Shortlisted in the 2017 International Yacht and Aviation Awards as well as being a finalist in the Boat International Young Designer of the Year in 2011.
