The 27-meter Canados motor yacht Manta has sunk off the coast of Corsica, France, after striking a reef on August 15, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. local time near the Senetosa lighthouse, located in the southern part of the island.
Local authorities and rescue teams responded swiftly to the emergency after Manta hit the shallow reef. All 11 people aboard were safely rescued, and no injuries were reported, though the passengers were understandably shaken by the event.

The rescue operation was carried out by a team of 17 responders, including three divers and one medical assistant. They arrived at the scene using a sailboat, a catamaran, and vessels from the rescue association "Le Sauveteurs en Mer – Centre Snsm Propriano." By the time they reached Manta, the yacht was already half-submerged. Despite their efforts, the yacht eventually sank completely in shallow waters. The passengers were transferred to rescue RIBs and brought safely back to shore.
According to local reports, passengers aboard Manta indicated that the yacht’s satellite navigation system failed to detect the reef.

Manta, a yacht from the Canados 86 series, was delivered in 2016. The vessel had a beam of 6.45 metres and could accommodate up to eight guests across four staterooms. Both the exterior and interior design, as well as the naval architecture, were handled in-house by the Italian shipyard. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, Manta was capable of reaching a top speed of 33 knots and a cruising speed of 27 knots.
In response to the sinking, local authorities have imposed a swimming ban in the area as they prepare to remove the wreckage.
