Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2019 announces impressive fleet for Porto Cervo
The 12th edition of the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) with title sponsor Loro Piana, is scheduled to take place in Porto Cervo from the 3rd to the 8th of June, 2019 and is set to be more competitive than ever with 24 superyachts already pre-enrolled. Owners who wish to join the fleet, including simply for the Rendez-vous aspect without competing, have to register until the 2nd of May.The 2019 edition of the Regatta will feature two important novelties: an extended duration, with an extra day to hold a cancelled racing if that happens, and the fact that multihulls of over 50 feet can now participate. With three multihulls already enrolled, Ad Maiora, Dragon and R-Six, they will race in their own category alongside any other multihull vessels that may register. The largest yacht enrolled so far is Q, built by Alloy Yachts to a design by Ed Dubois and measuring 51.7 metres. Just two metres behind her, a 49.8-metre Perini Navi Silencio, returns to the Costa Smeralda after winning in its class at the Perini Navi Cup in 2018. Another returning winner is the 39.6-metre Baltic 130' My Song, owned by YCCS member Pier Luigi Loro Piana which won the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta last year and was recently declared Boat of the Year at the Italian Sailling Federation's Sailor of the Year awards. The Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy returns to Porto Cervo for its 14th edition with a fleet of 10 boats currently pre-enrolled. Kiboko Tres will be making her debut in June. The yacht represents the second unit of the new 32-metre model, launched in October 2018 and now in the Mediterranean after completing the transatlantic journey from Cape Town where she was built. The SW-RP90 All Smoke, designed by Reichel/Pugh and Nauta Design, will also make its regatta debut. The current holder of the trophy, the SW102 Seawave will fight to retain the title, while the SW82 Grande Orazio owned by YCCS member Massimiliano Florio, will compete on a level playing field with her sister ship Ammonite, returning from the Southeast Asia for the occasion.A new trophy will be presented by the YCCS Commodore Riccardo Bonadeo and Pier Luigi Loro Piana personally, and will be dedicated to the memory of the engineer Willy Persico, a YCCS member and the father of all Southern Wind yachts.Among the regular competitors in Porto Cervo will be the Wallycento Magic Carpet 3 owned by Sir Lindsay Owen Jones, the Wally 106' Open Season owned by Thomas Bscher and the Wally 94' Magic Blue owned by Antonio Cacace. All of the aforementioned are owned by YCCS members, and members Paola and Salvatore Trifirò, owners of the multi award winning Ribelle, an innovative design by Malcom McKeon, are also ready to do battle at the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta. It is worth mentioning that the event is not only about racing however; once back on dry land owners and their crews will enjoy, as always, a rich social programme.Photos via YCCS.
Two not-to-miss sailing superyachts at the Palma Superyacht Show
On April 27 starts one of the most exciting superyacht show the Palma Superyacht Show. Organized by the industry, for the industry, the five-day event serves as the perfect marketing platform for yachting companies, with exhibiting yachts available for both sale and charter. The show has gone from strength to strength each year, with over 300 boats on the water at the 2018 edition, a third of which are superyachts. Similar numbers are expected this year, alongside 260 direct exhibitors.More than 80 yachts over 24 meters long will be presented here. Determining which boats are worth your attention can be a difficult task. Last year YPI presented a large fleet at the show. And now If you want to buy or charter a yacht, two yachts that you should not miss are the Rainbow and the Blues from YPI also. The 40-meter sailing yacht Rainbow, presented by YPI for sale and charter, is one of the most elegant ships on the waves. Delivered in 2012 by Holland Jachtbouw, it is the newest reproduction of the J-class and is currently the only J-class yacht available for charter. She is also one of the three J-Class yachts currently offered for sale, which certainly makes her one of the best sailing yachts in the world.

RAINBOW | 39.95 m sailing yacht | For Sale with YPI

One of the newest J-Class reproductions on the market, RAINBOW is a best in breed yacht developed from the original plans of the 1937 America's Cup winner of the same name.

The original 1930 Rainbow was built for Harold Vanderbilt designed by William Starling Burgess, she won America's Cup in 1934. The reproduction is designed using the plans of the original Rainbow but combines classic lines with modern amenities and technology. It is perfect for those who love to drive a regatta. Rainbow has a stunningly clean deck, with all the layout and all tailor-made equipment designed for sails and the most likely racing maneuvers. Lightweight aluminum winches are custom made by Lewmar. Her naval architecture was designed with the J-Class Association's top performance rules, while its plan includes the North Sale 3Di advanced sails and special high-speed hydraulic winches. The hybrid powerplant means that the Rainbow also boasts a reduced environmental impact and low noise and vibration levels due to silent swimming that can make night transitions.Everything that goes beyond the original lines of the 1930s is the most modern art of the Rainbow. Its installation includes high modulus carbon spars from Southern Spars, carbon mast, boom, and spinnaker, continuous carbon fiber tooling and North Sails 3Di racing sails. Unlike the other Js, the Rainbow has a racing box with spreaders.Rainbow interiors were designed by Dykstra in partnership with deVosdeVries design and decorated with mahogany panels and art deco details. Accommodation is available for six guests in the owner’s beautiful cabin and two double cabins with Pullman berths, while outdoor seating areas include dining areas in the cabin and on the bow deck. There is another comparison between then and now. It is said that Harold Vanderbilt chose the name “Rainbow” as early as 1934 as an expression of his hope that the situation could go better with the world after a period of economic recession. Today there are obvious parallels, and it would be nice to think that this new Rainbow could be one of the forerunners of a brighter future for the yachting industry.YPI will also present the Southern Wind Blues. 30-meters Blues, presented in exceptional condition after significant repairs 2017-2018, is currently on sale, which gives enthusiastic sailors a fantastic opportunity to purchase a high-end sailing yacht.

BLUES | 30.2 m sailing yacht | For sale with YPI

Characterised by the sporty lines of a low coachroof profile and an open transom, BLUES is built to the highest technical specification, including a high-modulus carbon mast and EC6+ carbon rigging. Find out more at ypiyachts.com

Designed by Nauta Design inside and out, with Farr Yacht Design naval architecture, the Blues is the second building in the award-winning SW100RS series and has a high modulus carbon mast and EC6 + carbon fiber trim with a low canopy and an open transom, it is the best 100RS, ever released by Southern Wind. The guest house stretches from the middle to the very edge, occupying the quietest part of the yacht, consisting of the main room, a double VIP cabin, and two double cabins. The sporty character of the yacht extends to the interior with a low wide cabin with and a study, which is ideal for relaxing after a long day at sea.To book a viewing or find out more contact the YPI Brokerage Team on Brokerage@ypiyachts.com
Southern Wind delivers 32m sailing yacht The Power of 2
South African shipyard Southern Wind has delivered the third hull of SW105 series. The yacht launched earlier this year and christened ThePower of 2 has now departed from Cape Town after extemsive sea trials for her maiden voyage to the North Sea.The yacht features interior and exterior design by Nauta Design, with the Farr Yacht Design responsible for the naval architecture. This cooperation has already met recognition from the industry, with 29-meter Southern Wind yacht Seatius winning Neptune Award for the 2019 Best Sailing Yacht Interiors at the Boat International Design and Innovation Awards. The Power of 2 was ordered by an experienced sailor who was looking to step up from a smaller sailing yacht to faster sailing and exploring remote locations in comfort and safety. She is ideal for long- range navigation and easy sailing given different sea conditions. The yacht’s twin rudder system combined with the lifting keel (3-5m) allows access to more remote shallower ports and anchorages, and with the keel down this configuration provides excellent upwind light air performance. Meanwhile, the yacht’s fixed bowsprit with an integrated anchor arm has been designed for easy anchoring. She is built with a Deck Saloon configuration that was specifically designed by Nauta Design and Southern Wind Shipyard. That allows for a tall and easily accessible engine room, located below the saloon. A high capacity battery installation allows for longer periods of silent running and greater autonomy, a real plus for a yacht that will spend most of the time away from harbours and marina facilities. The style of the Power of 2’ interior is essential and modern at the same time. The oak furniture combined with muted and toned textiles and upholstery create a warm atmosphere on board, with no compromise to design or functionality. The interior features Southern Wind Shipyard’s most popular owner’s cabin, with the forward layout. This comprises three comfortable en-suite guest cabins amidships with crew quarters and galley aft; a layout that allows maximum privacy for crew and guests. The main saloon is a light, bright open space where eight to ten people can relax together in comfort on sofas or at the dining table while enjoying panoramic 270° window views. Immediately forward of the living area, lies a fully equipped custom bar that separates the main saloon from the owner’s private area. The Power of 2 has been conceived and built to be respectful in terms of sustainability, making her an ‘eco-friendly’ yacht. Marco Alberti, SWS General Manager explains: As an example, water and fuel treatment systems on board this SW105 were more complex than normal, incorporating fuel polishers and water softeners. Added to that, fridges are stocked with carefully stowed glass bottles filled with drinking water that is desalinated, re-mineralised and sterilised on board.Southern Wind Shipyard was founded in 1991 by Italian entrepreneur Willy Persico. Located in the city of Cape Town, South Africa, the shipyard specialises in high-performance composite sailing yachts from 25 to 35 metres, designed for both relaxed cruising and high-octane sailing. Among other noticeable vessels of the yard stands a 30-metre sailing yacht Blues to be seen at Palma Superyacht Show 2019.
Palma Superyacht Show 2019: 7 of the largest brokerage yachts on display
The seventh annual Palma Superyacht Show will take place from 27 April to 1 May, 2019 at Moll Vell – Puerto de Palma. First started when a group of local brokers decided to get together to promote their yachts listings, the event has become solidly established on the international boat show calendar.Palma, once voted “the best place to live in the world” according to The Sunday Times, is considered a top quality destination to visit. Offering first class boutique hotels, it also boasts a thriving old town, hosting some of the best restaurants in Europe. In addition to a wide range of cultural, gastronomic and sporting activities all within a short distance, Palma is also considered one of the centres of the Mediterranean yachting and has a thriving yachting industry. This year’s Palma Superyacht Show is expected to have around 80 yachts on display. Aside from sleek sailing yachts in the 24-30-metre range, a selection of large motor yachts will be exposed to visitors’ attention. The 50-metre-plus yachts can easily accommodate 12-14 guests, boasting oversized Jacuzzis, Hamman and helipads and boast a wide cruising range. The recovery of the financial market has contributed to the growth in the number of yachts at the show and increased number of exhibitors. The show has also benefitted from the support of the Balearic government and the collaboration between the public and the private sectors. The 2019 edition will feature a new dedicated tender section. Following last year's success, an extended show area and a 72m floating bridge connecting STP shipyard to Palma's iconic fisherman's dock will reappear, along with popular FunFair tomfoolery with costumed performances and mime-acts.Refit & Repair, a distinguished sector, will also benefit from an improved lay-out this year. A relocated bar/restaurant area will face the Refit & Repair area, so that stands will be easy to spot and the new set-up will make for a better viewing experience overall. Furthermore, Refit & Repair, now going into its third year, will feature 10% more stands in comparison to last year: a total of 28 companies will be present launching ‘break-the-mould’ products and speaking on tried-and-tested services. The Palma Superyacht Show runs concurrently with the well established Boat Show Palma. Sirena Yachts: construction of new hull 88 is going ahead
Construction of the Sirena Yachts 88 Hull No.1 is well underway. The build also is the largest build of this yacht marque to date. Her World Debut is scheduled at Cannes Yachting Festival 2019.Sirena 88 is a true expedition-go-anywhere 26.8-meters yacht in comfort and safety on a dynamically stabilized offshore design. According to the hull characteristics and design, it is an evolution of her smaller sister Sirena 64, a low resistance that performs efficiently with a minimum of fuel consumption at high and at all speed ranges. For the date the composite hull was fully vacuum infused, using E-glass and vinyl ester resin. The all-carbon-fiber-construction deck and superstructure also were vacuum-infused, and the hull, deck, and superstructure have been joined. Construction has also begun to fit out the furniture of the main-deck interior as well as areas on the lower deck and the flying bridge.“We have some additional layout ideas that we are going introduce,” says Tanil Surmeli, product manager for Sirena Yachts “The Sirena 88 will make her debut at Cannes, but some additional layouts will also be shown there.”Her advanced naval architecture by German Frers and the interior design is by well-known Cor D. Rover.Exterior deck areas are well suited for entertaining. The aft deck extends the main saloon with a large al fresco dining area while the bridge deck with extra seating complements the sky lounge. The sun deck includes a bar, forward seating area and Jacuzzi aft. The foredeck social area will be protected from wind and ensure privacy with high bulwarks, while a dipping pool will be flanked by sun pad lounge areas to either side. Down port and starboard, stairs will be the swim platform, served by a striking beach club built into the transom. The flying bridge will be a social space all its own with a bar serves another formal dining table while aft groupings of settees will surround large cocktail tables.Accommodations space is very generous and includes the full-width Owner cabin with its own balcony to the sea, plus four en-suite, one of them a very large VIP guest suite. Two formal dinner areas, one “al fresco” on the upper deck and a second on the specially designated area on the main deck saloon are planned. Sirena 88 features a five decks layout accommodating up to twelve persons with elegant and stylish decor. A full-beam crew area insulates the guest accommodations from the engine space and provides up to four crews with a private sitting room and two cabins. The Sirena 88 will perform at both planning and displacement speeds comfortably and economically. She will be powered by 2/1,550-hp MAN diesel at cruising speed 16 knots and top speed 25 knots. With economy mode, she expected to have a range of 2,430 nautical miles at 9 knots.Yacht Harbour will watch for future updates for Sirena 88 build progresses over the coming months, as the testing launch is expected in June.@Photos by Sirena Yachts Press Office
