Wally has revealed the first details of the shipyard's brand new wallywind range. The three sailing boat models range from 110ft LOA up to 150ft aim to completely redefine the possibilities for owners interested in blistering performance allied to long-range cruising comfort.

Building work has already begun on the first unit of the wallywind110, scheduled to be launched in May 2024. She will sport a full carbon hull drawing on the world-class quality of Wally’s expert laminators, who have always been at the forefront of exploiting this sophisticated technology. Just as importantly, she features Wally’s simplified sail handling system, which has proven itself over time and is now widely adopted by the whole industry.

The project once again unites Wally know-how with naval architecture by judel/vrolijk & co.

wallywind110

“The wallywind110 is the equivalent of the Grand Touring car in the automotive world,” says Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s managing director. “It is a very powerful yet smooth long-distance cruising machine – but one that could become a serious challenger in a race - if you felt so inclined. The boat is ideal for an experienced sailor, maybe someone who has had boats in the 60-80ft range and is now willing to make the jump to the 100ft size range to get the extra comforts.”

wallywind110's main saloon

“The 110 is a true hybrid because it offers the volumes and comforts of a deckhouse yacht, but with a flush-deck that offers the spirit and the performance of a racing boat. The raised bulwarks do the job of disguising the fact that this is a raised saloon yacht, with the engine room beneath the floor. That means all the advantages of the layout, without the compromised aesthetics,” states Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and chief designer.

The boat provides an incredibly capable bluewater cruising platform capable of competing at the highest level of sporting endeavor. This is a yacht that can cross any ocean with up to four couples in the utmost comfort, entertain at anchor for days on end and yet thrill spectators and sailors alike in a regatta.

wallywind110 performance racing

Technology always remains close to Wally’s heart, where it can add real value to the sailing experience. Besides the full carbon lay-up, there is a high-performance carbon rig and the choice of three keel types: a fixed 4.5m keel, a 3.95-6.10 m telescopic keel or a high-tech 4.50-6.80 m lifting keel. Not for nothing does this boat have an impressive 40% ballast to weight ratio.

Other technical highlights include the use of lightweight lithium-ion batteries and auxiliary equipment, multiple high-pressure hydraulic pumps for maximum redundancy, and a low-profile twin rudder set-up. The wallywind110 also features Wally’s underwater anchoring system, and the famous Magic Trim hydraulic system for the main and jib sheets.

The yacht will have the 80 sq. m cockpit on a single level and fills the full beam of the boat, up to the deep, safe bulwark. This alone is twice the size of cockpits in other boats of this length. Layout is completely customisable, with seating and dining for up to 15 people. Just the twin carbon wheels and the crew companionway are fixed.

wallywind110's owner's cabin

One of the most appealing design elements is the removable deck furniture, which harks back to the heyday of big yacht racing. Every seat, sunbed, lounger and table can be removed and kept ashore to ready the wallywind110 for racing.

Numerous layouts are possible for the owner’s cabin forward, including walk-in wardrobes, separate his and hers bathrooms and relaxed seating. There are up to three further guest cabins, plus two more for crew and a further сaptain’s cabin.

wallywind110

The two larger boats in the wallywind range are the 130 and 150. “The 130 and 150 are clearly for owners who wish to take long cruises in any sea in the world, on a boat that offers not only comfort and a high degree of service, but also exceptional performance,” says Stefano de Vivo. “They are therefore passionate about sailing and the sea. The boats will also appeal to young people who want performance and who really connect with Wally’s brand values.”

Wally is part of Ferretti Group. It was founded in 1994 in Monaco by Luca Bassani and is the only yachting brand to be a two-time winner of the ADI Compasso d’Oro, the world’s most important award for quality and design.

Second wallywind110 Launched by Wally
Wally has completed construction of the second wallywind110 sailing yacht, scheduled for its world premiere in late August in Costa Smeralda. The 33.5-meter vessel shares the same judel/vrolijk & co-designed performance hull and carbon construction as its sistership Galma, while introducing several custom modifications.Key updates include a sand-grey hull color scheme, lighter interior finishes, and a reconfigured lower salon with a multifunctional workspace replacing the bar area. The VIP cabin now features a sliding bed system converting between single and double configurations. Studio Santa Maria Magnolfi maintained the exterior and interior design continuity with the first unit, preserving the wallywind series' signature elements: dedicated helm stations, integrated swim platform, and expansive guest areas.Performance features include a telescopic keel (adjustable from 4.5 to 6.95 meters), twin rudders, and a carbon rigging system from Hall Spars with North Sails. The yacht's construction benefited from lessons learned during the first hull's production, allowing Wally to optimize the build process. No charter or ownership details have been disclosed for the new vessel, which joins Wally's growing fleet of performance sailing yachts. The Monaco-based brand, now part of Ferretti Group, continues production of its wallywind series alongside motoryacht projects at its facilities in Forlì, Italy. The Ferretti Group, led by Chief Executive Officer Alberto Galassi, is now one of the world’s leaders in the construction and sale of luxury yachts and pleasure vessels, with a unique portfolio of brands: Ferretti Yachts, Riva, Pershing, Itama, Mochi Craft, CRN, Custom Line and Wally.Credits: Ferretti Group
70m Project Thunderball Nears Completion at CRN
The 70-meter full-custom superyacht Project Thunderball is progressing through construction at CRN's Ancona facility, with delivery scheduled for 2026. Designed by Vripack with naval architecture focused on sailing yacht-inspired efficiency, the aluminum and steel vessel will serve as both a luxury yacht and support vessel for the owner's existing sailing yacht. With an 11-meter beam and 1,100 gross tonnage, Project Thunderball features five decks accommodating 12 guests and 15 crew. The design departs from conventional motor yacht aesthetics, incorporating a sharp bow entry and curved bilges reminiscent of sailing yachts - a direct request from the owner, an experienced regatta competitor. Vripack's co-creative director Marnix Hoekstra noted the hull's efficiency eliminated the need for a bulbous bow, with tank testing confirming unusually low resistance. The exterior design centers on a continuous shear line creating streamlined proportions, complemented by a top-deck winter garden enclosure. Custom elements include an oversized swim platform and vertically aligned window mullions influencing interior layouts. Project management firm Y.CO reports the build has progressed efficiently through collaboration between Vripack, CRN, and Nauta Design, the latter responsible for interior and exterior furniture."Seeing the project advance through key milestones demonstrates the effectiveness of this technical partnership," stated Donna Green, Y.CO's Head of New Build Projects. The yacht's construction began following the owner's 2018 commission, with Vripack describing the design process as an intensive collaboration with the highly involved client.Upon completion, Project Thunderball will join CRN's portfolio of 70-90 meter custom superyachts. The Ancona shipyard currently has four additional projects in construction, ranging from 60 to 85 meters. No exact delivery date or projected cruising itinerary has been disclosed for the Thunderball project. The Ferretti Group, led by Chief Executive Officer Alberto Galassi, is now one of the world’s leaders in the construction and sale of luxury yachts and pleasure vessels, with a unique portfolio of brands: Ferretti Yachts, Riva, Pershing, Itama, Mochi Craft, CRN, Custom Line and Wally.Credits: Vripack
