Australian yachts can come to New Zealand but owners’ family and friends who either have an Australian passport or have been allowed into Australia can fly to New Zealand through the Australian/New Zealand trans-Tasman bubble and join their vessel.

Destination New Zealand
– 24-months temporary entry of vessels A cruising yacht is entitled to visit New Zealand for up to 24 months without the need for the yacht to be imported to New Zealand. A Temporary Import Entry (TIE) certificate will need to be applied for from New Zealand Customs prior to arrival.
– Superyacht charter allowed Visiting superyachts complying with Maritime NZ requirements, are welcome to charter in New Zealand. This is best arranged through a local superyacht agent, who will process the necessary paperwork with Government departments.
– Visiting vessels exempt Goods & Services Tax (GST) of 15%. A visiting yacht (entered on a ‘Temporary Import Entry’) may purchase goods (equipment) and services ‘zero rated’ of GST if the goods or services are to form part of the yacht and exported with the yacht. This also includes berthage costs, repairs or refit work completed while in New Zealand. The process is simple with the GST not charged at point of purchase on production of the TIE certificate.
– Operational logistics for crew. Crew are not required to pay tax providing they are not present in New Zealand for more than 365 days in any two-year period and are not employed by a New Zealand resident/New Zealand-controlled company.
– NZ Cruising Guide NZ Marine has published a comprehensive information guide and directory for visiting superyachts and smaller cruising craft, unlike anything else available in the world.
Visiting the South Pacific
Tahiti Current regulation allows yachts over 24m in length to stay 36 months. Yachts under 24m are allowed 24 months.
Current regulation allows yachts under and over 24m to stay 18 months.
Australia has a 12 month TIE (temporary import entry) which can be extended twice up to 36 months. After this period the yacht needs to leave Australian waters for 12 months before re-entering.
“We have been waiting over a year now and are very excited that yachts and their owners, leaving from Australia, can come to New Zealand. It presents the opportunity for cruising and superyachts to enjoy New Zealand’s cruising grounds, and superyacht regattas; the New Zealand Millennium Cup and the various regattas planned for 2022 by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron,” says CEO of the NZ Marine Industry Association, Peter Busfield.
“Combining this with superyachts now being able to charter in both New Zealand and Australia, we see Australians and Kiwis able to get their overseas experience in style by chartering a superyacht in either country for a holiday of a lifetime,” he added.
On Wednesday, Azimut Yachts launched the second unit of the 38m Azimut Grande Trideck. The model has an extra deck in addition to the three traditional ones, completing a visual effect of cascading terraces from the top of the sundeck down to the sea. This all-new feature brings with it a full height beach area and transforms the cockpit into a private patio, which invites the environment in through cut-outs in the fashion plates. Dynamic exterior lines were designed by Alberto Mancini. The elegant interior has been designed by Achille Salvagni, who brought his famous air of wellbeing onboard the Trideck – with a less formal twist. The yacht’s hull is the second generation of the D2P (Displacement to Planing) hull, which was developed for smooth sailing and class-leading fuel economy by Pierluigi Ausonio of Studio Plana in collaboration with the Azimut|Benetti R&D Department. Other factors which contribute to her superb seakeeping include the extensive use of carbon fiber to laminate the upper parts of the yacht, as well as stabilizer fins from CMC Marine, which are integrated efficiently thanks to their proprietary Argo software.Grande Trideck has a dual-motor option, with a pair of MTUs of 2400 or 2600 hp each. Northrop & Johnson offers tandem yacht charters for this summer in the Mediterranean – the 49.9m Mangusta superyacht Da Vinci and the 40m Mangusta luxury motor yacht Veni Vidi Vici.A tandem charter is an excellent option for charter parties with more than 12 guests, which is the maximum number of guests commercial charter yachts must adhere to. Tandem charters can welcome charter parties with extended family or more than 12 friends, event charters, such as weddings or corporate retreats, and more. On 18th June 2021 Lürssen unveiled and launched project Enzo, a striking and bespoke 115m superyacht, built for a repeat client who previously owned an 86m Lürssen. Nuvolari Lenard was responsible for the exterior and interior design and Moran Yacht & Ship managed and supervised the project, all bringing with them their wide spectrum of experience and consolidated knowledge. The target for Enzo was to create a healthy and family-focused life on board, with numerous offerings for sports and activities including the extra-large gym on the skylounge deck and the spacious wellness area on the lower deck. Mulder Shipyard have launched the 36m motor yacht Project Wildcard. Following in the footsteps of previous Mulder ThirtySix sister ships Mana, Calypso and Delta One – successfully delivered in 2020, 2019 and 2017 respectively – hull number four has been sold to a first-time Mulder owner who has had previous experience with Dutch builds. REV Ocean was established in Fornebu, Norway, in 2017, with a critical mission to facilitate a new generation of ocean solutions and raise awareness of global impacts on the marine environment. The main platform to achieve this important mission is developing the world’s most advanced research and expedition vessel – REV Ocean. An extensive team of world-leading experts have been hired, and a broad network of science, research and innovation partners have submitted proposals to achieve our ocean saving mission.The vessel is currently under construction at the Vard Brattvåg shipyard in Norway. But the delivery has been "beset by delays caused by the yard" and could potentially not be in operation until 2026. During this time we will continue to implement our overarching mission, but as a result of the extended delay of the ship, all vessel-related activities will temporarily be put on hold.
