Turning Points magazine asked a few celebrities what for them makes life worth living and why most of us are rarely satisfied with just sunshine and stars. One of them was the Russian billionaire and owner of the Brooklyn Nets Mikhail Prokorov. He admits that he has never been a materialist and spent all his youth in a small, Soviet apartment: "If you were to visit my home in Moscow now, you'd see that it basically resembles a nice hotel with a nondescript resident. There's no great artwork, no Faberge eggs in sight! Only me, usually lounging in my Brooklyn Nets track suit."
Prokhorov owns two yachts: the seasoned classic Solemar and a very modern Palladium.
Solemar was built in 2003 by Amels and last refitted in 2011. Michael Leach is responsible for her beautiful exterior and interior design. The 61m superyacht accommodates up to 12 guests in 6 double suites. Solemar's most alluring features include a fully equipped gymnasium enclosed by glass walls, deck jacuzzi and outdoor cinema. In terms of the performance, the vessel can provide a maximum speed of 15 knots and cruise at 14 knots.
As for Palladium, she was built in 2010 by Blohm+Voss at their Hamburg shipyard and was also designed by Michael Leach. The 96m superyacht is able to accommodate up to 16 guests in 8 cabins as well as a crew of 34. Palladium's astonishing amenities include a helipad, gym, jacuzzi, elevator, swimming pool and platform, and a tender garage. The vessel can reach a top speed of 19 knots and comfortably cruise at 16 knots.
As Russian billionaire admits, sailing makes him seasick and he owns a yacht mainly because it lets him jet - ski. "The best thing about the yacht is free - the satisfaction of having risen to a new challenge and mastered a new move (which is especially difficult if you're 6' 8" !). This is something that no one can do for me. I value my personal growth and am happy to invest in it - along with the occasional fine wine", states Prokhorov.
