Today the United Kingdom and the world said a final goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II at a state funeral, which is taking place at Westminster Abbey. Presidents and prime ministers, kings and princes from all over the world are joined with hundreds of thousands of people who have lined London's streets. 



We decided to dedicate the article to Her Majesty. During her 70-year reign as British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has spent plenty of time on board boats in her role as Commander in Chief of the British Royal Navy. 

In 1937 the young Princess Elizabeth went to the sea with her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, on the 128m Royal Yacht HMY Victoria and Albert, which was launched in 1899 and was in service from 1901 to 1939. 



In 1960’s The Queen and Prince Philip had their personal yacht – the 63 feet Bloodhound, built by Camper and Nicholsons and launched in 1936. Prince Philip often used to cruise on her with Prince Charles and Princess Anne. The family sold it in 1969.

Bloodhound is a classic racing yacht with many achievements, such as winning the Fastnet Race (twice), the North Sea Race, the Southsea to Brixham Race and the Round the Island Race.

The yacht was launched from the John Brown & Company shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland, on 16 April, 1953. The ship's name was a closely guarded secret, only being revealed when Queen Elizabeth II smashed a bottle of Empire wine and announced to the expectant crowds "I name this ship Britannia… I wish success to her and all who sail in her".

The yacht was in service from 1954 until 1997 and became the 83rd such vessel since King Charles II acceded to the throne in 1660. For over 44 years the Royal Yacht served the Royal Family, traveling more than a million nautical miles to become one of the most famous ships in the world. To Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Britannia provided the perfect Royal residence for glittering state visits, official receptions, Royal honeymoons and relaxing family holidays. Four Royal honeymoons were enjoyed on board, Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones being the first in 1960. In 1995 The Queen cruised around the Outer Hebrides islands of Western Scotland. 

The yacht was decommissioned in 1997. "Looking back over forty-four years we can all reflect with pride and gratitude upon this great ship which has served the country, the Royal Navy and my family with such distinction," said Her Majesty The Queen. 



Since 2017 Britannia has been sitting at a dock in Edinburgh and attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year. 

In 2011 Her Majesty made her 16th visit to Australia. During that tour, The Queen and Prince Philip rode up the Brisbane River by boat on October 24.

In 2012, The Queen led a historic flotilla of 1000 boats along the Thames during the 60th anniversary of her coronation with the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. But before the show revs up the Queen, accompanied by Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, took a nostalgic trip on the Royal Yacht Britannia. 

Queen Elizabeth II died on 8 September aged 96. She will be buried at Windsor alongside her late husband, Prince Philip.

T60 To Be Built by Baglietto
At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show Baglietto presented the Seagull brand’s new yacht T60, penciled by Francesco Paszkowski Design. It was unveiled at the press conference during the boat show. 60 meters long and weighing around 1,000 GT, the T60 is the natural evolution of the successful T52, for which the shipyard has already secured six orders without having even launched the first hull yet. On this vessel, the soft exterior lines of her predecessor have become even sleeker thanks to the lighter side buttresses that almost seem to be “hanging” on the water, blending in with the outer ceiling, while the black glass stripe incorporating the portholes – a leitmotiv on Baglietto’s most recent yachts – results in an even more streamlined profile.The layout is brand-new – there are no enclosed spaces on this yacht: the floor-to-ceiling windows of both the main saloon and the upper deck open up completely and, once fully concealed, create new, ever-changing environments that harmonize with the surrounding landscape. The same informal areas that during the day allow to spend time outdoors and enjoy the sea to the fullest are easily converted to take on a more formal and stately ambience in the evening, always maintaining a direct contact with the sea. The beach area, the main saloon and the dining area have been thought out as one single free-flowing space: a 60 sq. m beach lounge – featuring a swimming pool, a bar and a conversation area – welcomes guests on board and leads them to the completely opened main salon. The resulting space is an almost 100 sq. m space developing on two levels plus the dining room, also fitted with glazed surfaces that can be fully opened to create a living area on the water, where guests can relax both during the day and in the evening.On the upper deck are a lounge area and a dining area – also fully convertible thanks to windows that open up completely on three sides – as well as a hot tub and a sunbathing area. At the bow the designer placed a touch-and-go helipad. The sundeck extends over an unmatched 165 sq. m terrace offering a 360° sea view.The owner suite might be located on the main deck. This master cabin features an en-suite night area, a private lounge and a fixed balcony. The shipyard also proposes an alternative configuration, with the entire upper deck transformed into the owner's deck.Four guest cabins, two VIPs and two guests, are located on the lower deck. Forward on the same deck are also the crew quarters, sleeping 11 crew members in six cabins, while the captain’s cabin is on the upper deck, behind the wheelhouse.The garage, which can fit a 23″ tender, two jet skis and a rescue tender, has been arranged forward on the main deck, while a haute-cuisine kitchen can be found in the central part of the vessel.The T60 is equipped with two CAT C32 ACERT engines that will push her to a maximum speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots and is pre-fitted for hybrid propulsion, available upon request.The delivery of the new yacht is scheduled for the end of 2025.Baglietto Spa is an Italian boat builder based in La Spezia specializing in new aluminum light alloy yachts ranging between 35m and 50m in length and steel and light aluminum alloy displacement megayachts starting at 40m.Credits: Baglietto
A Closer Look  at Meyer Yachts 210m Concept TWO10
­During the Monaco Yacht Show 2022 Meyer Yachts, the superyacht division of the Meyer Werft shipyard, revealed its newest 210m concept. The TWO10 will feature sustainable propulsion solutions. The profile of the TWO10 is kept flat; however, a look at the decks illustrates the yacht's enormous size. Technically the TWO10 relies on green propulsion solutions, for example with fuel cells and battery systems. "Here we show once again what innovations Meyer Yachts is capable of. We design our concepts in such a way that we can also make them a reality in this form. This makes our yachts technology pioneers from which many other types of ships and people will also benefit," explains Jan Meyer, Managing Director. The entire design of the TWO10 focused on novel solutions. In perspective, drones can also be used for passenger transport on the helipad in the bow area and charged directly on board with the green electricity generated onboard. Thanks to the generous space available, there is also room for a complete tennis court, which is fenced in by a fine-mesh net during play. The TWO10's other features include a beach club that extends over two decks and has an infinity pool suspended virtually above the bar. Towards stern swimming guests look thereby by the largest disk, which was ever used also a yacht. The TWO10 concept is the second design after the 150 meter ONE50, which was revealed at last year's Monaco Yacht Show.Meyer Yachts is the superyacht division of the Meyer Werft shipyard. 55m Project Serena Sold by Heesen
Heesen has sold the 55-meter Steel FDHF (YN 20555). The client, an experienced yachtsman, was introduced by Arcon Yachts Monaco. Project Serena has muscular exterior lines from Frank Laupman at Omega Architects and a generous enclosed volume of 760GT. Despite the fact that Project Serena is the seventh in this line, she has a number of features that distinguish it from sister ships. A larger expanse of floor-to-ceiling glass, without mullions, in the main saloon and sky lounge, gives a slightly more aggressive look to the profile, thanks to continuous sheets of tinted glass. The horizontal lines stretch the optical length and balance the air draft. Frank Laupman managed to retain the family look and feel, whilst giving it an elegant and refreshing touch. The design includes a French balcony in the owners’ apartment on the main deck forward, less formal layouts for the outdoor areas that focus on alfresco dining, additional stairways for more fluid circulation, and an extended sun deck layout for additional floor space.Luca Dini Design and Architecture have worked closely with Omega’s team and Heesen’s engineers to optimize the internal layout, make the most out of the 760 GT and enhance the floor-to-ceiling windows. Luca Dini and his team will work on further personalizing the interior design to incorporate the owners’ lifestyle and taste. “This is the second yacht in the 55-meter steel series sold by Arcon, which is an astounding achievement!” comments Friso Visser, Heesen CCO. “The 55-meter steel series is proving to be a remarkably successful yacht – it is big enough to accommodate the luxury expected of a superyacht, and yet small enough to access the more intimate Mediterranean ports. 100m Flettner Rotor Powered Catamaran Presented by 3deluxe
Design studio 3deluxe has unveiled its FY.01 low carbon-emission superyacht concept. A year ago the studio developed a climate-friendly VY.01 superyacht. FY.01 is a Flettner Rotor powered catamaran superyacht which showcases the benefits of this forgotten innovation. The outcome is a superyacht with incomparable open deck experiences and a strong profile. The new yacht design study illustrates the potential of the Flettner rotor as another powerful element down the path to achieving the goal of zero emissions.“The significant profile of FY.01 can become a clearly visible statement not only for the focus on sustainability and innovation by the future owner but also for an industry on the forefront changing the mindset towards a sustainable hedonistic future,” comments Björn Asmussen, 3deluxe Ocean Director. The Flettner Rotors use rotating vertical pipes to transform wind energy into a highly efficient transversal force. Very much like a topspin in tennis or a curveball in baseball change direction due to their rotation. Responsible for this effect is the so-called Magnus force. Over the recent years this forgotten technology is having a powerful revival due to the availability of new technologies and materials. Currently predominantly on utility vessels companies are starting to substantially increase fuel efficiency on large scale commercial vessels by adding Flettner Rotors.Silently powered by electricity generated by the white solar panels on the roof surfaces of the yacht, the biggest potential is in the incredible efficiency of this system. Depending on the wind conditions, the force generated by the rotor supersedes a sail of equivalent size. The lightweight, up to 40m high cylinders are constructed by sustainable NFC Natural Fiber Composite.In combination with state of the art steering and navigation systems, this allows to reduce the energy consumption and the CO2 emissions of this cruising superyacht by up to 40%. The electric hybrid drives installed in the catamaran bodies of the FY.01 can therefore be optimized in their efficiency. The capacity of the high efficiency batteries will also provide the needed energy over a longer period of time. The 100-meter yacht is a catamaran which serves to provide a steady base for the three almost 30-meter-high lightweight rotors, arranged in a triangular pattern on the superstructure. This layout of the vertical elements ensures the yacht is far from resembling customary sailing boats or motor yachts – and thus heralds the launch of a completely new type of ship.FY.01 is a 20m wide vessel, and provides highly appealing open decks, which might involve a free-floating infinity pool spanned between the hulls via a central protected atrium area midships, or the dramatic bow tips that offer a fire-pit lounge and a shallow, salt-water pool, creating highly attractive spaces in the forward section. Vertical greenhouse modules are integrated into the uppermost deck and provide fresh food for the adjacent open show kitchen. First Amels 80 Sold by Damen Yachting
Damen Yachting has confirmed the sale of the first Amels 80. Burgess represented the owner in the sale of this brand new Amels design which was unveiled earlier this year. The 80 meter superyacht features custom interiors by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design. It is the first collaboration between Sinot and Amels. The exterior design was made by Espen Oeino. “The Amels 80 is a design that will not age. Her modern strong lines will look as good in 10 years as the day she departs the yard. She is a big ship, full of features, with an impressive interior volume at 2,175 Gross Tonnage. She is everything and more that you will expect from an 80-meter yacht. There is a sense of scale, but nothing is wasted,” says Espen Oeino. She has an impressive 200 sq. m sun deck, a waterside beach club which opens up on three sides and includes wellness and spa, huge framed panoramic views over the ocean on the main deck and a dedicated owners deck.
