The 98-metre Aviva was seen in the early morning of October 15 arriving at the Abeking & Rasmussen facility in Lemwerder (Germany), where she is expected to remain for a refit until January. She was delivered right before the start of the summer season.



Built for Joe Lewis, whose net worth is estimated at $5,3 billion by Forbes, the yacht became the 4th Aviva owned by the UK billionaire. He is also the current owner of the 68-meter Aviva, delivered by Abeking & Rasmussen in 2007. The new 98-meter is to become the UK billionaire's 4th Aviva.



Reymond Langton Design were chosen to style the exterior, who, working with designer Toby Silverton on the exterior, developed a sleek and elegant profile. Inside they created a modern interior with a full sized padel tennis court, 20m x 10m x 6m high.



The powerful looking hull is the result of new research and testing which ensures superior seakeeping abilities combined with a 20% decrease in drag. Less engine output is required, fuel consumption is reduced and the maximum speed is a full 20 knots. A very special feature is the hybrid drive system: it allows Aviva to run at up to 11 knots without the use of the main engines, using electric motors only.

31-metre superyacht Francesca launched by CCN for an American owner
Following the launch of 40 m M/Y Kanga, a few days ago another mega yacht hit the water – M/Y Francesca, the sixth craft in CCN’s successful line of CCN 102’ Flyingsport yachts, to be delivered to an American Owner.This 31 m boat in composite material can boast very slender lines and a skilful, balanced mix of style and functionality, combining the characteristics of a flying bridge yacht with the sporty features and high speed typical of large open yachts.The metallic light-champagne colour shade endows the hull with elegance and a strong personality – the same that can be found in the interiors designed by Tommaso Spadolini, who perfectly interpreted the taste and wishes of an Owner particularly keen on design.The layout is the classical American one, with a spacious open country kitchen located on the main deck. This area is extremely bright thanks to the wide glazed surfaces of the salon letting in plenty of natural light, and to the skylight above the central dining table, which can be shaded by an electrically-driven liquid-crystal film. The furniture of the main deck also includes a comfortable custom-made sofa.Across the yacht, the furniture and furnishings combine classical style and ‘bolder’ solutions, overlaying and alternating different materials, like sycamore and dark wood, glass and satin metal. Other materials also include a wide range of leathers, supplied by Marine Leather, obtained through different procedures (braided, smooth, pleated) and coming in different colour shades. In the full-beam master cabin, located on the lower deck, for instance, dark, lacquered colours alternate with lighter and brighter ones. The marbled sycamore wood on the walls is interrupted brightly-coloured fabric panels by Pierre Frey and is stylishly combined with the soft colour shades of C&C fabrics.Great care has also been devoted to the selection of furniture, which is entirely custom-made and carefully designed to use lightened materials, so as to ensure no impact on the yacht’s 40-knot required speed performance.Conceived for cruising in tropical seas, Francesca can boast an over-23 sq. m flybridge equipped with an easily removable awning and ensuring great comfort thanks to an icemaker, a barbecue, and a high-performing custom-made refrigerator. Indoor, a tropical air-conditioning system (248,000 Btu) will ensure the ideal temperature at all times.Onboard technologies also include a state-of-the-art home automation system that fully integrates the two MTU 16V2000 M96L engines, the modern steering system, and all onboard utilities.Another peculiar feature of this outstanding boat is her limited draught (1.20 m), allowing to move safely and quickly even in the shallow American waters, as explicitly required by the Owner.Francesca can also rely on a 4.40 m Williams water-jet tender.After cruising the Mediterranean Sea during the summer, the yacht will be presented as a world première at the Cannes Yachting Festival, to be held from 11 to 16 September.
Ferretti Yachts to celebrate their 50th anniversary in Venice

42-metre custom explorer yacht sold by Cantiere delle Marche
Cantiere delle Marche is glad to announce that another contract has been recently signed: Explorer 40.22, a 40-metre ocean-going yacht designed by Tommaso Spadolini with naval architecture and engineering by Hydro Tec.Explorer 40.22 is another example of CdM’s ingenious approach to yachting. CdM's Explorer 40.22 encompasses all qualities that define a top-class explorer yacht.First and foremost Explorer 40.22 has been designed to handle all weather conditions. Being an explorer yacht she has a very efficient, sea-kindly and sea-worthy hull form. Safety and comfort of guests and crew are at the forefront of her design. Another distinguishing feature of Explorer 40.22 comes with how far she can navigate without refueling. Proven high-end equipments in a large and well laid out engine room designed for ease of service by crew is another fundamental feature of Explorer 40.22.“This project stems from a client who wishes to have a strong, comfortable, reliable vessel featuring technical characteristics similar to that of a merchant ship. Throughout the design and building process the Owner avails himself of a team of technical consultants that usually work with him. “The yacht is designed for family use with top class service, yet all family members don't disdain to be involved in all sort of activities on board, cooking included,” Vasco Buonpensiere says.Taking a look at both her exterior design and interior layout, it can be seen that the purpose of Explorer 40.22 is twofold. Firstly she offers comfortable cruising to her guests and secondly she allows exclusive and extended holidays 'far from the madding crowd'.“I worked with this client many times in the past and two of his most recent yachts bring my signature,” says Florentine designer Tommaso Spadolini. “He asked me for a clean and simple silhouette and generous interior/exterior areas to provide him and his family plenty of spaces to spend long holidays in total relax. These may seem very common requirements for a large yacht, yet he gave us precise indications about how private and social areas should be calibrated. He is an experienced yacht owner and he is aware of his family's expectations and habits.” As for Explorer 40.22's interior design, the Owner asked Spadolini for an elegant yet understated style. “The yacht will feature 7 guest suites, and 4 cabins for Captain and crew. All areas, both interior and exterior ones, both private and social, will pamper, delight and entertain all on board as they are on holiday,” says Spadolini. “The yacht has been designed to the standards set by a very experienced client who decided to switch from a planning yacht to a displacement one,” says Sergio Cutolo, founder and team leader at Hydro Tec. “Explorer 40.22 has been a totally new challenge for us,” Sergio maintains. “The beautiful design from Studio Spadolini required the highest degree of integration with the naval architecture and engineering to keep its unicity and perfect balance. Having already worked with Tommaso Spadolini, this was a successful and smooth process. The naval architectural aspects have been influenced by the peculiar weight distribution and from the bow profile that has been designed to the Owner’s Specific esthetic requirements. The hull is a typical round bilge displacement hull, with generous bulbous bow and flat sections aft. The beam/draught ratio has been taken to an optimal value and special provisions were taken to allow for high diameter/high efficiency propellers. Maximum speed will be higher compared to similar designs, and this was duly considered in designing the waterlines. From the structural point of view we minimized the impact of the structures on the hull and superstructures to maximize internal spaces. In the superstructure we managed to create the perfect match between the designed interior layout and windows positioning/size.”With a length overall of 42 metres and a beam of 8,50 metres, Explorer 40.22 will have a displacement at full load of approximately 400 tons. Powered by two Caterpillar C32 Acert delivering 970kW each at 2100rpm, Explorer 40.22 will reach a top speed of 14 knots with a range of 3500nm at 10 knots. Volvo Penta unveils pioneering self-docking yacht technology
Aiming to tackle one of boating’s most stressful maneuvers – docking – Volvo Penta has revealed an advanced self-docking solution, targeted for launch in 2020.The Gothenburg, Sweden, stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race was the scene for the unveiling of what could be the most sought-after system in modern boating – Volvo Penta’s self-docking system. In a live demonstration, a 68 ft yacht fitted with the technology skillfully maneuvered itself into the tightest of spaces between two of the Volvo Ocean Race 65 racing yachts.The unveiling of the pioneering self-docking yacht technology is the latest in Volvo Penta’s ongoing ‘Easy Boating’ philosophy to make boating simple, enjoyable and accessible to more people. At its heart is the joystick-controlled Volvo Penta Inboard Performance System (IPS), a complete and integrated propulsion system – from the helm station, via the engine, all the way to the propellers.Narrow berths, changing wind and sea conditions and congested marinas will all soon be less of a challenge when docking. This is thanks to the responsiveness of the Volvo Penta IPS system, coupled with sensors and advanced navigation processing power. And, just as the system helps get the boat into the dock easily and safely, it can also enable it to securely take-off from the dock in an automated fashion.Prototypes of Volvo Penta’s self-docking technology are currently undergoing development trials. The automated docking capability comes due to the onboard electronic vessel control system (EVC), which computes steering and drive calculations in relation to the boat’s actual position and four sensors sited on the intended berth.Easy docking“Docking is one of the most challenging boat handling maneuvers – getting it wrong can be embarrassing, expensive and precarious,” says Björn Ingemanson, President of Volvo Penta. “Our IPS system has already taken great strides in making docking easier, and this new self-docking feature takes that process one important stage further. Its sensors and onboard computers react in milliseconds to changing wind and sea conditions, constantly making micro adjustments in power and steering angle of the IPS drive to keep the boat on its intended course into a safe berth. If necessary, the docking process can be paused, and the system will hold the boat stationary in the water. Even in changing sea conditions it can make the sea appear to stand still.”How it worksAutomating the docking process involves three distinct phases. Firstly, as the boat nears its berth, the system recognizes that it has entered a ‘catch zone’ and sends out a signal to the captain that it is ready to dock. Once the captain has activated the self-docking function, the boat is then (aided by GPS), automatically moved into a ‘docking ready’ position. Once the captain has initiated the final stage, the system uses a combination of GPS and sensors, both those fitted onboard and additional sensors fitted to the destination dock to automatically move the boat into a safe berth.“We have long had the ambition to make docking as easy as possible,” comments Johan Inden, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Penta. “The first step towards this was in 2006, with the launch of our joystick docking technology. This was followed by the introduction of the Dynamic Positioning System, which automatically maintains a boat’s heading and position, even during strong currents or windy conditions – ideal when preparing for docking. Now, we are taking the next important step by enabling the boat to dock itself. With our easy docking concept, we aim to attract more people to enjoy the boating experience.”Upgradeable option for Volvo Penta IPS-equipped yachtsAnother attention-grabbing feature of the forthcoming system is that it will be available not only for the latest IPS equipped boats – a retrofit version of the function is also planned, something that would make an attractive upgrade to thousands of boat owners.The initial focus for Volvo Penta’s self-docking system will be individuals who can install the system on their own private docks. Longer term, it is believed that the technology will be of considerable interest to harbors and marinas, allowing IPS-equipped boats fitted with the system to dock in complete safety and accuracy. An additional future scenario for the self-docking system is that it could be integrated with Volvo Penta’s Easy Connect application (app). The app could allow users to check if the nearest marina is equipped with the appropriate self-docking technology – or even perhaps use it to secure a parking space.Sensors on the berth help guide the yacht safely into its docking position.Safety is a primary factor in the ongoing development of the feature and, as with similar ‘self-parking’ technology in the automotive world, Volvo Penta’s docking system is not designed to be fully autonomous. While the system will also feature surround sensors that provide anti-collision alert and avoidance, the captain needs to remain at the helm during the docking process, ready to intervene if necessary.
50-metre Tankoa superyacht S502 Elettra
The first boutique shipyard - Italian yard Tankoa Yachts, with a multicultural approach to yacht construction is proud to announce the sale of 50-metre model S502 Elettra to a European owner. The sales process was steered by Giancarlo Mussino of SINOS S.A.The launch is scheduled in February, 2019 with the scheduled delivery in May, 2019.Designed by Florence based Francesco Paszkowski, the second fifty meter Tankoa under construction model S502 Elettra is in terms of style a sister-ship to the first 50 meter Vertige delivered last summer. As onboard Vertige, she reveals a balanced and timeless style with a layout specifically designed for optimal circulation. Owners and guests can move from deck to deck without interference with crewmembers who have their own dedicated pathways for servicing the yacht, providing complete privacy for owners and guests.But the main innovation onboard this new 50m superyacht is her hybrid propulsion system with four different operation modes:1) Diesel electric mode - the electric motors are powered by the two variable speed generators, allowing for a 10.5 knots speed and a range of 4,900 nm.2) Hybrid mode - one of the two main engines drives feeds the same shaft electric motor to generate electrical power to run the second electric motor for propulsion and hotel load. At 12 knots, the yacht will have a cruising range of approx. 4,000 nm. The two diesel generators are inactive in this mode.3) Traditional mode - the yacht can sail at 17 knots using both main diesel engines for propulsion and a diesel generator for onboard services.4) Full-speed mode - with both main engines and generators supplying power to the two electric motors and for hotel loads, the yacht will reach a top speed of 18 knots.On the lower deck Elettra will be equipped with Gym and Beach Club, three VIP cabins with king size beds and two guest cabins with twin berths, plus crew quarters and service areas.On the main deck, the cockpit comes with an oversized sunbed, reversed U-Shaped sofa, coffee tables and a bar. On the same deck level, the interior comprises the spacious salon, galley, dining room and sumptuous master suite with office and day lounge equipped with fold-down balconies on both sides.The upper deck was designed around spacious outdoor areas for guest’s relaxation, with a dining table and access to the comfortable sky-lounge.
