The 10m Foiler, the ‘Flying Yacht’, is a true boat for the 21st century. She was designed and produced by Enata Marine and is able to ride 1.5m above the waves at 40 knots in complete comfort thanks to a revolutionary retractable foiling system.



But the Foiler’s cutting-edge design and performance required an equally sophisticated onboard management system for total navigational control and a seamless user experience. The Wingman software package is able to manage and optimise every aspect of the yacht’s operation, from CO2 emissions and fuel consumption to the angle and loads on the foils. 

The stylish dashboard interface provides detailed data on all the most important information such as speed, engine revs and fuel consumption, as well as the anchor, lighting and tank systems. The clear graphic layout can be taken in at a glance even at high speeds and a carousel controller provides access to more data by simply swiping and clicking on it.



The data from the sensors being run through the software is constantly monitored to develop diagnostics that facilitate preventative maintenance via a check-up program that also alerts the user if there are any changes in the day-to-day state of the systems. Enata Marine can even monitor the boat over the cloud, issue health reports and notify the boat owner when a visit from a technician is due. 

“You may be doing some things too late and others you don’t need too,” says Aloïs Vieujot, Enata Director. “The system will advise when it’s time for specific maintenance work, which means less yard time and lower running costs.”



The heart of the system is Enata’s microcontroller, which allows the Wingman system to ‘learn’ from previous conditions. Part of the Wingman is a computer that stores all the telemetry and sends it to the cloud.

“Owners can download over-the-air software updates and choose to share the yacht’s data with us on the cloud, so if there’s an issue we can first try to resolve it ourselves remotely. Our experience is that most of the issues can actually be resolved over the air, which is a lot cheaper and a significantly improved customer experience,” says Aloïs. “A lot of functions can also be operated using a smartphone, such as turning on the engines, changing the speed and heading, and engaging the autopilot.” 



Data analysis results in tools for optimising performance and running the onboard systems. About 300 values are shared at a rate of 100Hz (32,000 samples/second), producing a wealth of information that can be used to help minimise fuel consumption. Enata Marine is also working to introduce upgrades that further enhance stability to further improve comfort in rough seas.

“For example, the boat was most fuel efficient when foiling at around 27 knots when the consumption used to be 2.5 litres per nautical mile,” says Aloïs. “With all the data we collect, we’ve since managed to tweak that and it’s now 2 litres per nautical mile, and this is continuously improving. Instead of having a boat that becomes obsolete with time, your Foiler is always benefiting from the latest improvements.”



The smart efficiency and user-friendly design of the Wingman system is such that Enata Marine has been approached by other interests in the marine sector, including boat builders, engine manufacturers, fleet managers in the oil & gas industry and coastguard services. However, it is equally applicable to other yachts and the company plans to make the system available to other boat owners as a standalone package.

With its factory in the United Arab Emirates, Enata boasts a 75,000 sq.ft top-notch yard which hosts its three divisions: Enata Marine, Enata Aerospace and Enata Architecture. Azimut Yachts Has Launched the Second Unit of the 38m Azimut Grande Trideck
On Wednesday, Azimut Yachts launched the second unit of the 38m Azimut Grande Trideck. The model has an extra deck in addition to the three traditional ones, completing a visual effect of cascading terraces from the top of the sundeck down to the sea. This all-new feature brings with it a full height beach area and transforms the cockpit into a private patio, which invites the environment in through cut-outs in the fashion plates. Dynamic exterior lines were designed by Alberto Mancini. The elegant interior has been designed by Achille Salvagni, who brought his famous air of wellbeing onboard the Trideck – with a less formal twist. The yacht’s hull is the second generation of the D2P (Displacement to Planing) hull, which was developed for smooth sailing and class-leading fuel economy by Pierluigi Ausonio of Studio Plana in collaboration with the Azimut|Benetti R&D Department. Other factors which contribute to her superb seakeeping include the extensive use of carbon fiber to laminate the upper parts of the yacht, as well as stabilizer fins from CMC Marine, which are integrated efficiently thanks to their proprietary Argo software.Grande Trideck has a dual-motor option, with a pair of MTUs of 2400 or 2600 hp each. Northrop and Johnson Has Offered Tandem Yacht Charters
Northrop & Johnson offers tandem yacht charters for this summer in the Mediterranean – the 49.9m Mangusta superyacht Da Vinci and the 40m Mangusta luxury motor yacht Veni Vidi Vici.A tandem charter is an excellent option for charter parties with more than 12 guests, which is the maximum number of guests commercial charter yachts must adhere to. Tandem charters can welcome charter parties with extended family or more than 12 friends, event charters, such as weddings or corporate retreats, and more. On 18th June 2021 Lürssen unveiled and launched project Enzo, a striking and bespoke 115m superyacht, built for a repeat client who previously owned an 86m Lürssen. Nuvolari Lenard was responsible for the exterior and interior design and Moran Yacht & Ship managed and supervised the project, all bringing with them their wide spectrum of experience and consolidated knowledge. The target for Enzo was to create a healthy and family-focused life on board, with numerous offerings for sports and activities including the extra-large gym on the skylounge deck and the spacious wellness area on the lower deck. She was also designed to travel to her destinations in the utmost comfort. “Enzo’s design language is all about connecting her six decks – both the naval and tech elements with the living space – into one whole,” says Dan Lenard. “Her three decks integrated into the high bow guarantee sea-keeping in true ocean conditions, while also allowing her an innovative full-beam owner suite duplex.”As with all Lürssens, the yacht is equipped with state-of-the art technology and engineering systems. The 36m Project Wildcard Has Been Launched and Sold
Mulder Shipyard have launched the 36m motor yacht Project Wildcard. Following in the footsteps of previous Mulder ThirtySix sister ships Mana, Calypso and Delta One – successfully delivered in 2020, 2019 and 2017 respectively – hull number four has been sold to a first-time Mulder owner who has had previous experience with Dutch builds. The yacht has a sleek aluminium construction and a continuous window line which culminates in a contemporary plumb bow, with its modern exterior springing from the drawing boards of British studio Claydon Reeves and with naval architecture by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. The 183m Project Rev Has Been Delayed
REV Ocean was established in Fornebu, Norway, in 2017, with a critical mission to facilitate a new generation of ocean solutions and raise awareness of global impacts on the marine environment. The main platform to achieve this important mission is developing the world’s most advanced research and expedition vessel – REV Ocean. An extensive team of world-leading experts have been hired, and a broad network of science, research and innovation partners have submitted proposals to achieve our ocean saving mission.The vessel is currently under construction at the Vard Brattvåg shipyard in Norway. But the delivery has been "beset by delays caused by the yard" and could potentially not be in operation until 2026.
