33m Lusail Queen Ran Aground in Doha
On Friday, November 18 the 33 meter Lusail Queen (previously known as Rayyan 1) ran aground in Doha. The Instagram user bo.5lifa has shared the video with a few people on board who were trying to solve the problem and repair the damages. The yacht is a part of Gulf Crafts fleet, she is a typical Majesty 105 model launched in 2013. In 194 GT she can accommodate up to 10 guests on board between five cabins, including an owner suite, VIP suite and three guest staterooms. Her exterior and naval architecture was made in-house. She has a composite hull and composite superstructure. She is powered by Caterpillar engines of 1900 hp each giving her a maximum speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.<blockquote class=instagram-media data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=https://www.instagram.com/reel/ClEdfRSAwBF/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading data-instgrm-version=14 style= background:#FFF; 342m Cruise Ship Global Dream Bought by Disney
Disney has purchased Global Dream, the 341m cruise ship, the 7th largest cruise ship in the world. The keel laying ceremony for the flagship took place at MV Werften’s facility in Rostock shipyard on September 11, 2018. In 2022 MV Werften shipyard filed for bankruptcy. Disney plans to finish the construction at Meyer Werft. After that the ship, according to a press release, will be renamed and decorated with the Mickey Mouse-inspired colors found on the rest of Disney Cruise Line ships. The Global Class ship can accommodate about 5,000 passengers in 2,500 cabins based on a twin share basis – and up to 9,500 passengers during holiday peak season. Disney announced that the maximum capacity would be 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members. It was also said that the ship will feature “innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart.” At 342 meters long and 46.4 meters wide with 20 decks, Global Dream would have a shopping mall, the Asian spa, theme park or Cineplex.According to Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, “Our cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are, and the addition of this ship will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before.” Credits: Disney Cruise Line
Electric Silent Tender 400 Launched by Silent-Yachts
Silent-Yachts launches the new Silent Tender 400. Designed by the Silent-Yachts team, it is the first dedicated tender design from the successful electric yachting brand. Though it measures 4.0m from transom to bow, the tender borrows a number of the style cues from Silent-Yachts’ much larger 60ft and 80ft electric catamarans. There are the angular, contemporary lines, the rebated bulwark and signature black and white finish. And extreme efficiency. Its carbon fiber lay-up ensures that the hull of the sporty-looking tender weighs no more than 90kg. That means it is lighter to lift out using the hydraulic bathing platform of a Silent 60, easier for the mother ship to carry and crucially, far more efficient to propel through the water.“It follows the same design principles as our award-winning electric yachts, with dimensions that enable it to fit both the Silent 60 series and Silent 80 series yachts. What is more, the hull gives passengers a really dry ride, even at speed and in confused seas,” says Michael Köhler, founder and CEO. Designed to carry six people with ease, the Silent Tender 400 was conceived as the ultimate tender for the solar-powered Silent 60 series yachts. But those same characteristics that suit it for the task are just as likely to appeal to those looking for a fun electric runabout or an efficient tender for a conventional yacht.Designed with a central console, the simple, intuitive controls will appeal to the whole family. All it takes is a throttle, leather-padded wheel and a display showing speed, heading and depth. Meanwhile, the driver’s seat is flanked by two other seats for shared moments on the water, and there are two bow seats – all provided with practical hand holds. Boarding is via a step in the lowered bulwarks amidships.Owners are able to choose between various inboard and outboard propulsion options. Inboard power comes via a 20kW electric waterjet, offering extremely low draught and ease of handling. With the sportier outboard, input power is either 20kW or 30kW, depending on the package selected. The higher rated motor is capable of propelling the boat at more than 20 knots, for an exciting, sporty ride.Battery capacity is also a matter of choice. For performance reasons, Silent-Yachts has engineered the boat to carry either a standard 16kWh lithium battery or an upgraded 20kWh unit for more range. At a 10-knot cruising speed, expect a minimum of 2 hours’ drive time. Fast on-board charging can replenish the battery in just 2.5 hours.According to Köhler the shipyard is already working on a larger 5.1m electric tender, specifically designed to fit the garage of the Silent 80 series yachts. Silent-Yachts is producing the world’s first fully solar-sustainable oceangoing production catamaran yachts. They are powered exclusively by solar energy and capable of cruising up to 100 miles per day. In 2009, founders Heike and Michael Köhler, who have spent 6,000 days cruising more than 75,000 miles all around the world, launched the Solarwave 46, the first fully self-sufficient blue-water catamaran after years of testing solar-powered propulsion, and they have been building boats ever since. Major Performance Improvement for Super Sub Announced by U-Boat Worx
The three-person submersible, which has a depth rating of 300 meters, is now the most flow-dynamic submersible in the world. Together with Marin, the renowned Dutch maritime research institute specializing in computational flow dynamics, the top speed of the Super Sub was optimized from its initial 8-knot estimation up to as much as 10 knots. That is 3–4 knots faster than the top cruising speed of a bottlenose dolphin, and 7 knots faster than the average submersible. The submersible now has the same efficient flow dynamics as an electric car. “We are very excited about this development,” says Bert Houtman, U-Boat Worx CEO. “It’s something we have been working hard on, and now to have the most flow-dynamic submersible possible, we couldn’t be more pleased. We are confident that our clients will feel the same.”The Super Sub was introduced in 2021 as U-Boat Worx’ fastest and most maneuverable design, delivering a dynamic dive experience and ability to deal with strong currents. The submersible has been sold to its first owner and U-Boat Worx sea trials scheduled in Spring 2023.Credits: U-Boat Worx
